Scott Boyle (1950-2005)
Saturday's April 2nd 2005 Navy-Georgetown lacrosse game was suspended following the first quarter when Referee, Scott Boyle, suffered cardiac arrest and later died. Trainers from both teams and Commander Kevin Ronan, a Navy Physician in attendance, arrived moments later and immediately began CPR. A defibrillator was brought on the field and used several times in an attempt to revive Scott.
Burch West and Andy Motsko, the other members of the crew, huddled in the Navy Marine Corp Stadium tunnel with Navy administrators and both coaches. It was decided to suspend the game at that point and Butch and Andy rushed to the hospital to be with Scott and await for Scott's wife, Becky and other family members.
Scott is survived by his wife Becky; Daughter, E. Kelly, and son, F. Scott, and brother and fellow official Darby Boyle.
Friends may call at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home at 6500 York Road Baltimore, MD 21212 (at Overbrook Rd) on Tuesday 4-5-05 2 to 4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday 4-6-05, 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church (200 Ware Avenue, Towson, MD). Interment private. Please omit flowers.
