View Full Version : Help with stringing top string + dying question...

Hey people, I was working on my stick today with my friend (Holy crap, he has the coolest dye ever...), and I was wondering a couple things...

1. How do I string the top string of my Eclipse? I bought a Brine stringing kit but the instructions are faded... I looked online, too, at laxnation.com, but those instructions didn't really help much. Can somebody give me step-by-step instructions?

2. Is there any really good way to dye a goalie head? I mean, we don't have a pot big enough to fit it, and we've just been heating water up and putting it in a bucket... I may have to get creative here in a bit, but does anybody know how I could pull it off easily?

Thanks in advance,

~ZV

view the sticky titled "The Monstrously Massive Guide to Mesh" and view kryptic's pics. I think those are the best, and that top string works very well.

As for the dye: Are you letting the head sit the bucket for fifteen minutes then repeating the process?

Yeah, I have pics of the top string in the sticky..

For dying a goalie head, give OutBurst a PM, he dyed his stick recently, so you can ask him what he dye it in..

About dying, do you boil the dye in the water before you stick the head in?

Me and my friend are just boiling the water, putting it in a big bucket, putting the dye in, stirring, then putting the head in. Is this wrong?

Nope, you have it right. Good Luck, post pics if you get a chance

i got a big pail/bucket kind of thing, probably only a couple bucks somehwere, it worked real well, or a lobster a turkey pot, that way you can keep it on low and keep the dye bath hot.

just do what they say above, and yes i reccomend unstringing and if you want to dye the mesh, do it after the dye has cooled to at least room temp that way it dosnt do anything bad to the mesh

just do a basic top string stringing like in kryptic's sticky... as for dying if u have a giant sink in ur basement or a dark kitchen sink (black...i have one...) that works very well. if not then go to the hardware store and buy a large storage bin.

You should first bring the water to a boil and add the dye while it is in the first pot boiling. Stir in the big pot and then transfer the entire solution to the place where you are dying the head. The hotter the dye the better it will stick to the head. Keep the head in the dye solution for 15 minutes, remove, rinse with warm water, then reheat dye and repeat process. You should really only have to do this twice and three times if you want to make it as perfect as can be.

OR

you can put salt in the water to raise the boiling point of the water, then it will be hotter than when normal water is boiling..

Woah, I can't believe I completely messed that statement up...

No, salt raises the boiling point of water, I did a lab on it in class.

Well, after the dying.. it seems that I didn't heat the water up enough or something because the flag pattern still shows through on a dark green dye. Also, I found that dying heads makes them a TON more flexable, is that right? If so, I probably won't dye anymore heads, I hate having a flexable Eclipse...

Eclipses have always been flexible after they have been used for a while. Dying heads does not make heads more flexible. You can only overcome the flag pattern with a black dye.
