Jaron: Well, we're slated for a a JV and V tourney in Illinois in April and a game against Hinsdale (IL) as well as a couple of out-of-conference games against some GB and Milw teams. Money for travel is always an issue with our team. I would love to get to your new neck of the woods but don't think it'll happen this year.

Gosh, if anyone wants to play little old Stoughton/ Oregon, I could bring it up at our meeting thats coming at the begining of this week. I know were not the hottest thing around like West is, but its nice playing some teams you dont know exactly whats going on. But I doubt my coach would be up to traveling, maybe Madison somewhere? But hah... doubt anyone wants to face up here, might just wait and see who shows up to Bullrush.

We're looking forward to playing Oregon/Stoughton! I think your team will be solid just as I think there will be decent parity throughout all of MALA. I don't know why everyone seems to think one particular team in Madison (Middleton, SP, West or whoever) is going to be so much better than any other team ...everybody is getting better around here (and the around the state, really)and I think that's great. As far as I can can, it is going to be a very competitive spring.

The Northern Michigan U. tourney played out pretty decently. Eau Claire lost Friday night to #5 Calvin College, 4-7. Our first game Saturday we played UW-Oshkosh and beat them 4-0. Trevor Wirth and an old Memorial defenseman played for Oshkosh, but much of the rest of their team was inexperienced. Next, we played Ferris State, who beat Calvin earlier in the year, and beat them 7-5. Later that night, we played a really good Saint Thomas team and lost 0-4. Overall, we took third in the tournament, behind Calvin and St. Thomas.

You're gonna wish i was there to get helmet checking penalties next season, butters. Besides, now that I have a good goalie, I don't need to be so aggressive. 4 games, 4 starts, 0 penalty minutes.

Our new goalie played middie last year at Chaska high school in MN; he just came out because he played hockey during fall ball. Between school and lax, i don't have too much time for mindless online chitchatting, so it's pretty rare when I'm on aim.

Good goalies... wow... there was 3 in the first game at Keva today... nice game Butters, but you stirred up some jelousy of the black kid on our team, first year, 2nd game kid gettin a goal when some kids who have been playin for a while still havnt. You had some killer saves tonite. And wow, did some of your guys throw out some wicked slashes and stuff, kinda sad when you have 2 kids get penalties simontaneously (sp?) and then the kid they did it on gets the goal and then your 2 men down. Tonite was some good lax thou... tally ho.

Who knows, Chad just needs to hit the net. Most kids I guess are too busy for an hour every Sunday. I don't think most of them realize though that we have a real coach this year who will actually make us run. They may want to consider signing up to get in shape.

So, any of the teams have meetings yet. Knowing if your teams getting larger at all? I know the Stoughton, Oregon, and McFarland kids did. Looks like were getting a decent turnout, about 50 total for JV and Varsity is the estimate for how many will be playing, but im not sure the split if theres more JV or Varsity. But now we have three schools represented in one team. Lookin at McStoregon, kinda gettin long.... heh...

Hal just is no longer going to be the head coach. He is still going to be there helping and stuff. But yeah, Oregon for sure has 1 varsity I know of, Stoughton has one varsity goalie, we also have 1 other forsure person that plays goal but rarely plays, and ive been interested in playing goal as well. But there is alot of Stoughton kids that are upset with the fusion. And Oregon were the ones that came to us asking, so we make it easy and call our team Stoughton and wear purple and white. There has been ideas thrown around like MSO Alliance (McFarland, Stoughton, Oregon), TriKegonsa and other ideas. But yeah, Its going to be 25 for each varsity and junior varsity, which some poeple are not liking. But Hal is not gone. At least I dont think, or he wouldnt have showed up at the meeting last night.

goldberg you are on crack... just kidding
anyone wanna know the story about how he got the nickname goldberg?
well i'll tell you...
one day this heavier, psychotic, just out of the navy 20ish year old man showed up in his scion car to our lacrosse practice, and said "hey, my names andrew, i played lacrosse in high school, i was wondering if i could help out" he told us he played goalie and our goalie wasnt at that practice so we tossed him in there, after warming up we started shooting on him, and he didnt save many of them. Trevor Wirth (big d man) went to shoot, and scored, to that andrew yells in frustration, and trevor goes "GOOOOLDDDDBBBEERRRG" like in the mighty ducks cuz, while wearing the goalie gear, he very much resembles the overweight goalie from mighty ducks... ever since he has been known as goldberg, and his little brother is known as 'baby goldberg'... the funniest part was that he thought we were calling him goldberg like the pro wrestler and he htought we were commenting on how strong he is, but we werent...
not to take anything away from the guy, during one practice he snapped an f-15 over his neck/head, and he also got shot while serving in afghanistan for the war.... also to get us pumped up for games, he grabs our facemasks and smashes his bare head against our helmets...he got a huge gash on his head during hte verona game... goldbergs pretty much the man
Coach_Goldberg
02-08-2006, 05:52 PM
Thank you, Jack.
See, I always thought that the reason I got the nickname Goldberg was b/c everyone had seen the movie The Longest Yard and were commenting on how beefy I was as is Goldberg the wrestler/actor/performance-enhancing drug endorser. In my world, that is still the reason...

Hey thanks(coach goldberg) for giving Waunakee some respect by ranking them number 3 if there was a tournament today, I think you are the only person who realizes that we can do without Gage, JC, and Indy. we have a couple of juniors and seniors who have been playing a couple of years and they have some skills and will finally be able to show it this year.

I've been around this league since 2003 and despite what some have said recently I really do think that just about every team has a legitimate shot this year in our conference. Waunankee was pretty good last year and will be better this year. Ditto SP and watch out for LaFollette. Verona and Middleton will be right there too. Memorial and the Oregon/Stoughton teams could surprise people too. Bottomline line is just about every game is gonna be a good one. Should be a fun spring!

Wanaukee plays super physical, which can help, but also could be a drawback. I know in the indoor season they have probably had the most penalties called on them for slashing, and what not, but they also play a tough game. I see it as a possible threat this year again, but not 100% positive, skill could easily dominate their physical game.

And as far as the Stoughton, Oregon, McFarland fusion, I know its gonna be a tought transition, with almost all of the Stought upperclassmen not wanting to fuse the Varsity team. And then alot of trash is talked on the field in indoor. So, IDK how this will all go down, but we seem pretty decent for talent wise, now its just hope that the Oregon coach dosent favor his kids over Stoughton and McFarland (if any McF kids are good) and that we can work together.

I got hit in the eye with a sharp object and it cut open my eye and eye jelly came out. Pretty much blind out of it for 2 days and then some light started to show. Got surjery to stitch it up and then another surjery 4 days later to clean blood out of the inside of my eye and put a band around it to keep my retina attatched so I dont go blind. It happened about a month ago and im just now getting close to being able to play lacrosse again, ive been doin some catch and scrimmaging with my teamates but yeah. What happend with your eye situation.

I was walking to the net to pull the balls out, and while I was doing so Storts wound up and took a full speed shot with his Dpole. Ricocheted off the crossbar straight in to my eye. I didn't even see it coming I just dropped instantly. I had trickles of blood coming out of my eye, and my pupil was non existent. Since this was prior to the JV game I went to urgent care quick, and got back in time to play the varsity game.

It was during on of our indoor games aginst varona and one of the varona guys had hit me as i took a shot. and my leg had started to swell up so i went to the bench and sat out for the rest of the game. So now because of my stubrenuss i naglected to go to the doctor soone enough, now i need surgary and sadly i will be missing this up comeing season. For all you that are playing in indoor, did you think Blue had some really bad reffing on this past sunday, or was he fed up by the third game that he started favoring one team over the other. Reason I call him Blue is because he looks like Blue from Old School, but yeah. It might not have been all him but Stoughton was getting these wack calls out of no where, like hitting somone that was 5 feet from the walls or so and got called for hitting to close to the walls, and stick checks that were all stick and stuff. It was nuts, really, I didnt feel it was reffed fairly, I wish the guy with freckles and red hair was reffing, he was cool. But yeah... West/Edgewood, and as far as I know Mc/Ore/Sto are compilation teams. Maybe Coach Darcy can clarify this, but unless you attend either West or Edgewood, you can't play for them.
Verona used to have a goalie who now plays for West, reason being the rule stated above.

yea but consider if a player doesnt have a team at his school...technically he can play for the closest team. It even works that way here, theres 1 kid who goes to a school with no team so he plays for us. The state cannot restrict kids from playing simply because there is no team at there school. It would be stupid...you cant blame one kid because no one else wants to play.

actually if SP is Sun Prarie as im assuming it is, alwaysmoney is wrong cuz Sun Prarie is way the hell down near Madison, so there really arent any schools close to you, but i bet if you wrote a letter to gait or debeer or brine or another company telling them you were getting a new highschool program started im sure they could get you a discount on some equipment and sticks if you bought them in a package. but ya, hockey players make a great transition to lacrosse. but just getting people to scrimmage is a good way to get people interested.

I agree with you, but I'm almost positive that the by-laws say you must attend the school that you play at.
Either way, neither of us have definite proof at our disposal. We'll need to reference the laws before this discussion goes anywhere.

"E. WHO MAY PARTICIPATE INTERSCHOLASTICALLY
A school may use on its interscholastic teams only its full-time students enrolled in grades 9-12.
Note: No eligibility will be granted for a student whose residence within a school's attendance boundaries, with or without parents, or whose attendance at a school has been the result of undue influence (special consideration due to athletic ability or potential) on the part of any person, whether or not connected with the school.
The only exception is for combined teams. A student who attends a school with an existing lacrosse program cannot play on an outside combined team."
There you guys go, straight from the Conference By-Laws.

I know for a fact that for my team it states in the by-laws that you have to attend the school to be on the team...I think it might depend on each teams by-laws

I don't think MALA has that written into it's bylaws so it's a moot point. The kid can play where ever he wants.
tdarcy
02-14-2006, 10:48 PM
The MALA policy, which may be formally written down or was adopted by voice vote, is that you play for the school that you attend (same as the WIAA). If your school doesn't have a team, then you'd play for the team closest to your home or school. I think there might be some exceptions on a case-by-case basis. At any rate, I don't think anyone would look to stop a kid a from playing--the "rule" (such that it is) is to prevent stacking (just like the WIAA). West/Edgewood is a combined team as is Stoughton/Oregon (McFarland) now too. It happens with other sports as well. Bottomline is to be as fair as possible to everyone involved (as much as possible anyway). If your school doesn't have a team..start one! That's what the kids in Verona did and now there are almost 30 teams in the state.

You can blame no one but yourself for the Fox's Pizza Den atrocity.
BTW, you're a lucky ******* for getting a snow day. For nine years I went to Verona, NINE YEARS! Could I get a snow day every now and then? No! Ha, at least I know you aren't at Fox's, gorging yourself on their very delicious, discounted menu items.

Football doesn't necesarily translate to lacrosse. Of course hockey skill doesn't necesarily translate to lacrosse either as many people like to believe. Great example: Kevin Bice was quite pitiful at football, and in hockey he was comparable to an autistic child attempting advanced calculus... quite a failure as you can probably imagine.
thedamnedfan
02-17-2006, 07:45 PM
But being atletic in either of those and not being a meathead can help you be physically prepared for lacrosse. I know alot of the kids from Stoughton play football or hockey, and it just keeps them fit. So not always does it help, cuz I know some football kids that blow at lax but rule in football.

first of all to clarify something teams can practice, but the coach cant run them. they can be captains practices. and second of all i fail to see how practicing indoors is sad. the good teams dont stop practicing. We dont even have the luxary up here of an indoor field to practice on, so we have to shovel off a section of a park just to practice, which isnt that easy seeing as how we just got blasted w/ that storm. i say dont rip on the teams that care about lax and improving unless yur doing that also.

The guys who keep their stick in their hands over winter are always the better guys during outdoor, when it does matter.
I think that you guys should take the indoor sessions alot more seriously than you do. It's a pretty sweet opportunity to have any indoor games at all, we certainly never did when I picked up the sport.

although the indoor league is great practice, for the d-men it doesnt help them as much as it should. they dont get to use their long poles and for attackmen, they get the habit of no long poles, so that also works against them for the outdoor league, but other than that it keeps everyone in great shape and the little things are worked out.

Wow Nate, you must be dumb, you really must be. Well, seeing as how klimedia isn't a word, my natural choice would be Chlamydia.
Now that we have that out of the way, I must agree with Jack....Topper's is disgusting, nasty pizza that should only be ingested if nothing else is available. Glass Nickel is decent, but they allow hoards of 300 pound black prostitutes to loiter around their doors. This made for a pretty uncomfortable situation as I entered, fresh from the golf course, and was begged for money/food/attention because I looked likeI had cash. Maybe Glass Nickel is just better delivered.

On top of that fontbonne would have twerked SLU considering every player we have recruited thus far is first team all state from Texas, Missouri, tennesee, or michigan.

Jace, I was pretty painful reading the score of the SLU/Mars Hill game....even campbell scored. Austin said the first 10 goals he allowed were absolutely ripped from short range.
Poor, poor austin.
Jaron, how much pt do you expect to get at Lafayette this season?

We don't like using bad words like "fag" on these forums, please refrain from that. We save all possible insults like that for on the field, where we say them to little Adam Lindheim and watch as he runs off the field in tears. Some of us, Mike Storts, have even gone as far as to draw pictures that will shatter the little boy's self esteem. Ahh how glorious...
Plus the mods get upset when you swear.

well thats funny because austin played the entire game with broken ribs...at the start of the game he cracked two of them and still played. its really easy to make the first save but a rebound with cracked ribs...hes not superman
lacrosse19
02-23-2006, 03:55 PM
i posted before but it didnt show up
in defense of the SLU/MARS HILL game, the score would have been closer, if not a win for SLU on account of austin getting his ribs cracked in the first part of quarter number 1. yes, he cracked 2 ribs and played the entire game! so 9 goals in the first half really doesnt mean that he is a horrible goalie or anything, its just hard to save a rebound when you have cracked ribs. honestly, slu should have won it
veronaD#02

I feel for him, he said he was hardly getting help on defense....he didn't even mention the ribs.

I will be able too if they dont check the list anymore, because my mother is taking back the money because of my eye, and she dont want me playing. But I still have my jersey so I might be able to. That is also if I catch a ride with you and not my parents. So I hope I get to play.

High school juniors and seniors.....you should all go play lax uw-eau claire. It's not as nice as madison, or even uw-lax for that matter, but it is way better than milwaukee/stout/wherever else you'd go. Plus, it's a growing program that plays in the competitive Upper Midwest Lacrosse League....meaning you'll get plenty of playing time against quality opponents.
Madison excluded, UW-eau claire is the best program in the state. Plus, if you go there, you can meet this kid:
http://www.uwec.edu/menslax/Bios/glen.htm
EDIT: Also, if anyone's interested there are tickets available for Minnesota Swarm (nll) games. There pretty cheap, and if you buy them you get to watch uw-eau claire (featuring your fav player....me) play conference rival Bethel before the swarm game.

Thanks for reading my pitch. Sorry I had to give it.

Unfortunately for Eau-Claire, they rejected my application. So I won't be able to grace their program. Although heres the deal, don't choose a college based on their club lacrosse team. You go to college for school, not to play lacrosse with Michael Storts. Pick the school for you.

They may have a better lacrosse team, but still... it's Stevens Point. What is there to do in Stevens Point?

its funny because that is far from the truth! that was me...he ran the ball up and i took a run at him and knocked him back like 5 feet and he dropped the ball...i picked up the ball and i see a shaft come from behind me and go between my legs and basically destroyed brian westfall (left testicle). so i got up and speared him in the balls and walked away and he was like OMG OMG IM A HO-MO (sapien?) <--moderator safe

Then again, Eau Claire is fairly close to the Twin Cities and Madison, manageable drive if you were to want to go "clubbin'" for a weekend. Stevens Point... well enough said on that subject.

I had chem lab during their picture taking session so I was unavailable to make it.
As for Stevens Point, they are indeed a good team. Although, them being in the A-division doesn't make them better than a B-division team. So far this season, the UMLL A-div only has one win over B (through 4 or 5 games), and that was UMD (an unstoppable team) beating St. John's. Eau Claire beat A-div Iowa State in our only A-div game to date this season.
Also, Steven's Point has been around for about 5 years, so their club is to the point where only the best kids are on the field, as most A-div teams go. B squads usually have smaller rosters, so everyone gets some amount of playing time....which is an issue when your paying to play. The price for Eau Claire is $50 for the fall, $300 for the spring, while many A-teams (take U of M for example) cost at least $200 for fall and upwards of $1700 for the spring.
Steven's Point is always guaranteed 3rd in the conference, behind UMD and the U of M. Eau Claire is pretty much in the same position behind St. John's and St. Thomas, but since i've gotten there we've lost to St. Tom 5-1, 8-5, and 3-0. Matched up, UWSP is a better team than UWEC (better as a whole; their offense is better than ours, but our defense/goalie is reaaaaaalllly good) but we'll know a final score when we meet, our next game, March 5th.
Finally, Butters is absolutely right, go to the school for education. Although in reality, many of you youngins want to play lacrosse anywhere that it's available. Eau Claire offers a pretty sweet campus with a good school (ask butters) and a competitive lax team, so if you're planning on staying in-state, I suggest checking it out.

probably calc depending on what you get in FST, and also what your major is. If you are a liberal arts major, I think you can test out of most of your math req. depending on the school.

It's all about being relaxed and focused. Like tonight for example... I got very angry and broke my harrow shaft by leveling some kid, because I wasn't relaxed and focused the remainder of the game, I let Oregon of all teams score 14 goals on me. When I was relaxed and cool 2/3 weeks ago when we played them, I only let in 2.

It also helps to comunicate with your defence. Let them know that there is a guy open next to the creace or a guy cutting cause some times they cant see that
