How to qualify as all state?

Right now on my team we have two all state players, an attackman and a goalie. And two of our defenders are all state nomanee's. Now i know im not quite good enough, but my goal for the next 2 years is to become an all state defender. That would just be the coolest title ever. Anyway i was wondering how that happens, does a scout just come to games or, does the coach recomend you, or are there tryouts or somethen?

its all based on stats....stuff like that, just play as one of the top 5 dmen in the state and u will make at least second team all state.
