So what happened to hack off Mr. Kimber? How difficult is it to not enforce the faceoff rules?

Well, considering the NCAA officials were supposedly saying that they'd need to buy batteries so their beepers would work with the new 20-second clearing rule, maybe it's hard to get buy-in on a new mechanic, Apparently a number of them never bothered with the timer to enforce delay of game.
(I don't know this for a fact; I heard it from people who attended the convention this year.)

Just another frustrating example of the lack of consistency.
Also heard in a game last weekend where a stick was put out of the game for being illegal, but the official wouldn't tell the player or coach what was illegal about it. When the coach pulled out his own tape measure to try and figure out what was wrong with it, the official ejected the coach. This is where lack of communication gets us in trouble!
When I call a faceoff violation (or any foul anytime during the game), everybody in the stadium knows why I called it and that prevents questions and complaints from players and coaches because they know what I've called and why.

Yeah, you need to at least say what's wrong with it. If it's not corectable, I tell the timer and scorer, loudly enough so the coaches can hear, "No one is to touch this stick, If anyone tries, call me over." If the coach grabbed the stick at that point he'd get a USC but probably not an ejection.

I try to do this as well. Some older officials try to tell me not to do this, but I feel like if I signal "illegal procedure" there are only like 143 different things that I could have seen. I'll even do it on, say, an illegal body check if I think it needs to be clarified that, say, the player was down when he was hit.
