I thought it might be interesting to see if everyone practices the same across the country...differences between landon to kent denver whatever...what do you guys do at practice?

ehh our practices are kindof lame.. and our coach doesnt put much effort on the offense, thats why we have a 2-9 record right now. all we do at practice is stretch, passing and groundball drills. then we go into stations (one on one drills, ground ball drills, passing drills, and shooting drills) then after that we set up our starting offense and defense playing against eachother. usually he only focuses on our defense cuz thats all he comments on... and our defense have like 5 different formations. our offense dont have any plays at all, and we only have one formation. and we only do conditioning like once a week.. or two weeks.. hah i dont even remember our team doing conditioning last week.

Our practices kind of suck too...we stretch and run then just do line drills. After that the offense runs 6-6 vs defense and we do some fast break drills...occasionally we do a full field scrimmage its not to bad...just the same thing...everyday

Our practices suck but only because we have to run a lot. Our schedule is like this:

Monday - Conditioning day. Sprints/long distance for almost all of practice with some stickwork stuff and drills thrown in at the end for good measure.
Tuesday - Mostly lacrosse with some conditioning thrown in.
Wednesday - Game day
Thursday - Same as Tuesday
Friday - Game day

We'll do drills, work on plays, work on defense, etc. Everything really.

^^thats how i want our practices to be.. but our games are like random every week.. some weeks we'll have games on monday, thursday, friday.. then sometimes on monday and wed... then sometimes only thursday..

We usually have games on Tuesdays and Thursdays but every so often we'll have a Friday or Saturday game.

Our practices are pretty intense because we started the season and our team just didn't have any emotion when playing so now every practice is a competition between offense and defense. It's actually really fun because he wants the offense and defense to not get along he says that outside of lacrosse we can be friends with who we want but at practice its offense vs defense and you need to want to win.

So what we do is this...

1. We start off running as a team, length veries depending on how we were the day before.

2. Then we stretch as a team with the captains leading the stretches and we do sit ups and push ups. Then we do these ladder agilites where you do differant things while running through a ladder.

3. Next we do line drills with defense in their own seperate line where we do normal line drills then cross field passes.

4. We go over offense and defense forums and just differant plays and slides and such.

5. We have our Offense vs Defense contest where offense has to score a goal to get a point and defense has to clear past the midline under control to score a point. First to 5 wins.

6. We do differant stuff after that depenidg on what we need to go over or we scrimmage or something.

7. We end with the losers either offense or defense having to run suicides while the winners watch.

Yeah, in Vermont we just started practicing two weeks ago, we have a 2.5 mile run to our field, do some warm-up passing, groundballs, then either 1 on 1 or 6 on 6, sprints then a 2.5 mile run home. Our coach may toss in other drills.

We have games mostly on monday wednesday and fridays, sometimestuesday and thrusday, but for the most part 2-3 games as weeks with about 3 practices. Each practice we do a campus run, stretch, line drills while I get warmed up (finally, sometimes I get out of the running), some 3v2 and 1v2s,clearing drills, some long distance passing stuff, trasition defense and offense, sometimes some weird passing drils, rapid fire, some wierd dril my coach made up that I abesoultely hate, and probably some other drills.

We don't do all of those in one day, but we always end in 7v7 working our offense and defense, but depending on how we did the game the day before, we focus on what we need to work on. for example at yesterdays practice we focused on our passing and catchign left hand a lot and offensive trasitions because we did horrible at those on friday.

Really not to bad, I think anyone can get a lot out of a practice as long as they work really hard and give it their all. It's when people start to jog or simply not pay attention in practice when practice pointless or not "good enough"

monday is our conditioning day--we start off with a slap sprinthing then stretch. then we run another lap jogging this time. and the next two laps after that are indian runs. then we do stations for three mins each--sprints/jump roping/10-45-90. and then we do quick sticks. tuesday-- is our day for lacrosse and a little bit of running. we work on stick skills, passing/catching then we might work on some plays or defense. [thursday-- is basically the same as tuesday but we scrimmage at the end and do more drills.

Warm up with lap running, then stretching. Then, the team does line drills, followed by shooting drills & man/ball. Afterward, we set up team offense/defenses and work that out for the rest of practice. Then, suicides follow afterwards.

First week or two is hell week. We ran around the field 17 times one practice and went for a 3 mile jog. After that we dot condition much because of our schedule. It is mostly 6-6 or man down drills after that. Yesterday the coaches suited up and we went full field.

well we get to the field....pass around a little and wait for everyone to get there..then captains line us up and we run a lap around the field and go into stretches..after that we go into line drills and we do everything imaginable with a ball...for about 10-15 minutes super fast quick sticks for all of them together..then we do sprints across the field by position about 3 times then we go into separate groups middies do one on ones and we run our offense while the attackmen do some one on ones with the d and practice the same offense as the middies..then we do some more sprints and then we go do footwork drills which kill your legs take a water break then go and do some 6 on 6's for a while then go do some more sprints then back to 6-6's then we wrap up with talks and whatnot and thats about it..everyday except firday and weekends and game days which usually are tues and thurs..although we do have some on mondays..we also may have a little lighter practice on a saturday to prepare for a monday or tuesday game...but some people wouldnt consider this brutal but hey we are 5-0 and we didnt get there by sitting around on our arses passing and catching eh?

bah, our coach makes us run 2 laps, two sprints, two ladders, one sideways ladder, one backwards ladder, two sprints. Then we just do a bunch of bogus pass and catch drills the wole time until the end, which we work on offense and defense none at all. We have an outstanding Defense line, and an outstanding offense line, but our middies dont know what the hell to do.

we start by stretching then we move to line drills. then we work on cutting and feeding. then we will either work on fast breaks and sliding or riding and clearing. Then we just work on 6 on 6 for the rest of practice, with 300's at the end

We jog half way around the field, stretch (lead by captians) break up into attack, def, and mids and do line drills. Then we'll run the star drill followed by 2 on 3's or 1 on 2's. After that we'll run some 1 on 1's. Then we do some spriniting from goal to goal and take a 3 minute water break. After that we'll work on our offense and def. If we're lucky we'll have a scrimmage, then more running.

thats crazy our practices are pretty much identical. I play for Rockhurst in MO. The only diffrence is we all do suicides at the end and we do a whooooole lot of them

our practice varies every day. lap, stretches, 10 yard wearm up stuff, line drills are all an everyday thing. our line drills focus on ground ball work. our last game we had 53 ground balls. half of our conditioning is also in line drills. then we do some combination of fundamental drills, such as: clearing, shooting, 3 on 2s, stationary 4 on 3s and so on. then we get together and work new offense looks while the defense works to adjust and run new formations. we have a head coach, a coach for d, and a coach for o. its pretty nice. then we do gassers, racing style.

1. jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and stretches (led by captains)
2. a lap around the park OR sprints/skipping/grapevines/etc. between goals
3. separate into varsity and jv and then do various drills
-> drills: box, groundball, cutting, one on one, shooting, etc.
4. scrimmaging (JV vs. varsity
5. sprints (only if we didn't run well in the game the day before)

Streches
Running (short)
Line Drills
3 on 2, ground balls
Fast break drill
4 on 3
6 on 6
Attack and middies usually work for a while on a play, while D works on long passes.

Thats about all.

Well other than morning practices heres what our frosh practices are like:

Run to field(a mile in distance)

Find a partner and throw the ball around a bit to get into the "groove"

Line drills and goalie goes to the cage with the coach shooting on him. First we do ground balls(halfway the man throws it and the other catches then throws back while the other is still running and when caught drops it), then we do righty in the air to the outside then to the inside then lefty for both then break outs.

Then we cirle up for stretch(yeah I lead it along with someone else).

Then defense and offense usually break up for a bit then when we get back we either scrimmage, go over plays(we always go over plays anyway),or w.e the coach wants.

Then we run back to the school.(both runnings need to be under 9 minutes)

Our practices go such as this:

We get all our gear on and then go line our sticks/gloves/helmets up in our lines and run a lap around our practice field to warm us up and then we get in our lines and stretch/push ups. Then we do knee highs, butt kicks, and we do some sliding drills or we'll do lunges, power hops, and power slides. Then we usually do line drills and over the shoulder throwing drills. After that we'll do some sprints and then water break. Then our defense and offense splits up and we'll learn something new or do some more drills. Then at the end of practice we'll scrimage the def against the off. It's usually pretty fun depending on how much running we do.

ur all lucky... we do the same drills as most of you but we have a beginning team. I'm suppose to lead them but i cant wen i get mad.were 2-1 and Most of thekids dont even try. i practice quick stick and cradeling at my house against a bric wall. basics are the basis to playing good lax.

i wrote that after we lost our game so i was pissed. in practice we do a lot of ball handeling. in line drills we will put a d in the middle so we can prac our dodges and it works quite well. Then coach well start with the first line putting them in and well prac the awfence and defense. Once that is done hell put the freshmen that havent learned the pplays. u can go online at goolge and look up the basic lacrosse plays.

ours are good, but there is TONS of running involved. our practices are almost 3 hours long, full of windsprints, laps, line drills, different scrimmaging drills (line 6 on 6 or 3 on 3), and since im a goalie, i get bashed in the net when we do 4 corners (worst nightmare for a goalie). and once in a while, the JV will scrimmage against the Varsity. but we do TONS of stuff, our coazh is a maniac about running

its seems that running is more imporyany then catching at ours ,. Weve alraedy had a few people running down the feild empty handed thank god not at games... Otherwise its lame we have random weird days where itll snow and noone'll show cept like 14 and we'll do line drill and then talk about "lacrosse" for bout 45 minutes really strange dont mind it but...

For us it would depend on if we have a game the next day or not.

1. Team stretches.
2. Agililities(1/2 speed, 3/4 speed, full speed, band leaders, small steps, high jumps, swingin out, side shuffle, karyokies)
3. Breakin it down(side shuffle, running forward, back peddle, drop stepping)
4. Ball drills
5. Ground Balls
6. Defense does footwork, Offense does shooting
7. Fast breaks
8. 6 on 6
9. Man up / Man down
10. Depending on how the practice went some running either the indian run, doing some racks, maybe around the goals a couple times, or maybe none at all
11. Ball hunt then home

PacersguyUSA
05-02-2005, 10:20 PM
1. Warmup - 1 to 3 very large laps, sometimes Indian run style
2. Stretch
3. Line Drills
4. Some gametype stuff

However, lately, after stretching, we've just been doing ground ball work.

Stretch/Run a mile
3 man weave
Offense does shooting drills and defense either does one on ones with attack or long passes.
6v6 for the rest of practice.

we stretch out, run 2 laps around 3 fields, 3 on 2s, then scrimage. Sometimes its mixed up a lil but other than that its about the same. currently 4-5 :(

most of our hard running is done in the preseason - truth is, if you arent in shape you wont get any playing time so everyone keeps up on their own maybe by going hard every time in practice to maintain shape. if they dont then they lose out anyways. we're fortunate to have a competitive enough team to do that

My coach is just like that same with my team. My coach used to be a track ccoach and we have a 3 hour ppractice devoted to man ball, indian runs, laps around the field, Pride sprints, and indian runs and wind sprints.
It sux but it made me in good shape and were undefeated
