View Full Version : Paul Gait hurting, still a threat . . .

Saw what I consider an incredible LAX game last night. The Mammoth played very aggresive but the Sting (particularly Dawson and Derks) scored when it counted and secured their first ever playoff berth, with the possibility of taking the division. 20 Mammoth fans traveled down and were very loud and proud, it sure was nice to send them on a long bus ride home.

After 25 years in this game, I have seen the Gait brothers many times - mostly when they played at 'cuse and later toyed with my NY Saints (thank goodness we had Sal in goal . . .). They are simply the icons of our game.

Gary's skills are such that even though he has slowed considerably, his stick handling and moves make him still a top 10 player as he heads toward retirement. Paul is limping noticeably, obviously in pain, and forced to just take the open shot. Even so, he scored a rocket and he still draws the double team.

Thanks Paul and Gary for one more lesson, now my kids can say they saw the best !!

I watched the Rochester/Colorado game on TV last night. Paul Gait was playing okay but seemed to take a lot of shots from well outside. Rochester won 12-11 in a very very close game that was decided on a PP with seconds left and Gary Gait in the box for a bad call when he got hit from behind into the goalie. Gavin Prout scored a sick goal while he was facing away from the goalie....it was a rocket considering the way he was positioned.

Hack I was at the game. Paul looked slow and weak, it was rather sad. I'm sure if the Gait's could get those last few minutes of the game back they would.

By the way I think the score was 13-12.

I was there too.

Paul still has the skills and a great head for the game, but his body has seen better days. 2 years of not playing competitive laX of any type didn't do wonders for his physical conditioning.

I have to question the Mammoth's logic in cutting Chris Panos to find room for Paul. There are issues with Panos, but he is a very good player who's in game shape.

I'll share a quote from a visiting Philadelphia Phan that summed things up perfectly:

"The old grey Gaits, they ain't what they used to be!"

tsk tsk. If only NLL fans knew what the heck they were talking about. If they did, there's no way that anyone would claim that Nash sucks. Over-rated? Possibly. But he certainly does not suck.
