im a fairly ambidextrous player by now, except i never really pick up ground balls right handed (im a lefty). do u guys feel it is necessary to learn to do ground balls both ways like with passing and throwing?

WEll i mean i am sure that your coaches will tell you yes but there really is no obvious advantage to use one hand over the other because no matter what hand someone checks you are most likely going to miss the ball. be it the leading the hand or the back. but when we are doing some ball drills I like to do it with both because I am trying to become completely ambidextrious but i still dont know why i bother

you should learn, so you dont waste time switching hands if you have to make a quick right handed pass. trust me, i've misseed a couple assists wastin time switchin to my right to pass off a gb.

ground balls get alot tougher when you have a 200lb michilin man coming after you

It is important, and it helps me in just about every game I play. Imagine two players 10 yards from the ball. One is running North up the sideline, the other down the midfield line. If you pick the ball up with one hand, your stick is exposed, the other, your back is to the man, protecting you stick. Now run the same sideline South, the opposite hand is protected.

i play d and have a hard time getting the gb's with my left. so i try to get em righty wheneever possible its something that i really need to work on, because i like to consider my self as having a good offhand.

yes its a fundmentally wonderful skill to have, but you have to perfect it to a point where your confident in picking up groundballs with your off hand like you are with your dominant hand. If this dosen't happen, their will be doubt about getting the ball and that = no ground ball for and potentially being laid out by the opposing defneders. So, yes it is a good skill to master, but (rom experience) if your quick enough and confident enough with your dominant hand, you can pcik up the ball with ease, withh or without defneders crowding around you.

Any hand I go I end up missing it or getting decked. So usually I just try to prevent the other team from getting the ball rather than picking the ball up myself.
