Im in my second year in lacrosse, and im improving a lot but now im getting to where i need to start taking shots. My shooting itself isnt too bad but i need more moves to get to that posistion. The only move i have now is the fact that i am quicker than everyone else, and running around them only works about once or twice a game.Im also not very good with my left but im working on that.

is there an easy move that i can use my quickness with and works well and if there is explain it.

i just started playing also a little while ago i purchased mark millons offensive wizardry it really helps so if you have 30 extra bucks you will probably want to get that but as far as getting in position you should try split dodges(ex. if you start it in your right hand you fake right and switch to your left for a lefty shot and vice versa.) but i like to draw my defender out a little then do it that helps. also there is the roll dodge pretty much what i said you roll this helps when you have a defender who over commits and lunges then you roll right around him. then there are a bunch more i think that insidelacrosse.com has some videos of dodges you might want to check there i hope this helps

Hasn't anyone ever taught you how to dodge? I'm in 8th grade, I've been playing on a team for less than a year, and I can easily dodge past most defenders at level.
Learn the split dodge. It's one of the most simple things you'll learn in lacrosse, but also one of the most effective.
Say you have your stick in your right hand, a defender picks you up and comes up to check you. Start running towards him at about 75% speed. When you get in close to him, take a big step to the right with your right foot, making him think you're going to keep running that way, but then cut back to your left side and explode away in a full speed, switching to your left hand as you go.
After you get away, feel free to switch back to your right hand to take a shot or pass if you like.

If your left is weak, learn to carry left handed well. The other team will respect your speed, and usually overplay the side. A split dodge back to your right, or roll dodge, will get it back to your right hand, and usually give you atleast a half step if you did it well.

With your speed, I would really work on feeding. Defenses are trained to slide, use that to your advantage, and force them to slide, then pass to the open man. It's basic lacrosse, but very important to recognize.

well GBasch i live in Kansas....good lacrosse coaches arent too plentiful the only good coach we have just started and he is all defense....im not saying i cant beat them, its just not very pretty...its basically getting a step ahead and keeping the ball in close and taking the checks.

i know roll and split kinda i was just wondering if there is anything special you guys do because not everyone goes by the book with the moves

my coach taught me.. the simplest way to get your hands free and to shoot it is to just stick your left foot out from his side (his right side), and pressure him off with your left elbow and just shoot. (this is for right handed shooting) you have to be quick in shooting to pull this off.

if your really fast when your running down the field at full speed on a fast break do a spin dodge. Or when your runnung up one of the sides of the crease and the Defender is over comitting do an inside roll

i haven't been playing for very long either but i like doing the face dodge since i too am weak in with my left. It starts out like the split dodge. you run up to the defender craddling with your right hand, take a big step to the right to fake and then go left, but as your going left do not swich hands, just bring your stick across your body and then lower your shoulder a little to protect it. then using your speed you go around them and bring the stick back across to your right side for a shot.
This usually works better when the defender is about to use a poke check, and then you cut because he is going to be off-balance and it will be tougher for him to slide with you. But there is a high probability you will get the check in your side so hopefully you have rib protectors, but unless your like me and don't you will just have to take it. The good thing is you don't feel it as much during the game b/c of of adrenalin and getting used to being hit.

this is my first year and i prefer the face dodge considering i am horrible with my left hand. i also do the roll dodge a lot and lately ive been doin like the swim move. but what i try to do since i also got speed is like fake one way so the long pole puts his stick on the one side of u and just run the other way b.c if u got speed its gonna be harder for him to get his stick back around u to the side u are running away from ... may sound confusing i will clear up if i need to

haha this defender was in one of my teammates way, so he beamed it at him, the guy ropped his stick and started to move, then our player picked up the ball and scored, so this technique does work... he didnt chuck it at his balls however, thats just cruel and unusual.. :shudder:

I just go down lean into the guy, cradle with my bottom hand. then if the guy backs off a little rip a shot. If he doesnt back off shoot over him. I have scored like 5 goals in 4 games with that move
