Go for the bottom hand, don't hit inbetween his hands on the shaft, if you cna understand. ---^xxxxx^--- if the carrots are his hands, the xxxs are where you shouldn't hit, because that's where the shaft has the most support. A few good rides:

Be SUPER aggressive. You'd be amazed at how effective an aggressive rider can be.
Just like how middies should be working their hardest on defense, attackman should be working their hardest on riding. You can settle it up and take a breather after you get the ball back...or score.

Try catching the ball when a d pole trys ta throw (works AMAZING if you can catch it)
otherwise bottom hand and don't get burned.

Thats is very true.. I am as big or bigger than most of the defense so i use that to my advantage and lay out the defense if not there's always the botom hand

what you wanna do is step a couple yards away from the sideline and turn your body towards the sideline...this gives him two options...run up the sideline and get knocked out of bounds or pass it away
i happen to be very short but tough...so these bigger d-man think they can just run over me but then i just deck them or whack it right out of there stick

I'll make it simple..

Try this drill..

Get with a buddy.. put your stick on the ground. you won't need it.. have him try to dodge you.. use your body position and hands to keep him from burning you. too many attackmen rely on their sticks.. a lot of wild swinging of that thing can lead to a penalty, benching, or just plain getting burnt.. focus on positioning and the checks will come . you don't really need to take the ball away.. most long poles will give it back to you with a bad pass if you pressure the heck out of them and just stay in front of them

Don't just think of riding as a man on man type situation. You should have different types of rides. The best I've seen is one attack as chaser, the other two outside the box in a zone ready to jump the ball if it leaves the box, but keeping and eye out for cuters with the help of middies at mid field. If the ball is opposite the field from you, cheat in because you want to force the guy with the ball to make the long pass accross the field rather than up it, and you'll be in a postion to cut off the closer d and goali who might've been the easier pass.

know how your team rides so you are in the right spot of the feild. if everyone is edoing there job right it usually works out . when the man ur guarding gets the ball try to stick your stick your stick betweed his top and bottom hand and between his stick and stomach(if he holds on with 2 hands) and then as he tries to pass you pull towards his stick. he probly will drop the ball. that works for me, but basically just get in stick checks, or lay him out if possible, or push him out of bounds. If your man gets passed you you can try to throw in a one handed check to his bottom hand, just ,make sure u get stck or glove because if u dont u will definitly get called
