I'm pretty sure that in box you can use regular lacrosse helmets. But most players use hockey helmets because they're lighter and cheaper than a lax helmet.

i use a bauer 5000 right now but i hate my hockey cage. i have an oneil mask r whatever it is but there was some issue with them and i guess i have a long head and half the refs say mine is illegal. so im thinking about geting a cpx but not sure if its gonna be alowed for box.

From a newly certified CLA ref:

NOCSAE approved field laX helmets are fine.

The O'Neill/MaxLax cage is only legal in Junior and Senior. It's completely illegal for all minor, including Intermediate (however, some refs turn a blind eye at the Intermediate level, because at 16-21 they're the same age as Junior age players).

For an alternate to the O'Neill, try out a Nami or Calcoat cage. They give good vision and meet the rules for all age groups and levels.
