 I Live in Gaston County NC. We finally have a local College in our area, Belmont Abbey, starting Men's and Women's Lacrosse programs next season. Yeah! But, outside of Charlotte, which has started a great youth program with growing participation, and a wonderful grass roots movement. There is virtually no exposure to the game. I actually was in a sporting goods store in the area where a person thought Lacrosse was a European game! :dummy: I left him several past issues of Inside Lacrosse, and gave him a couple of historical pieces I pulled off the web. I digress. Anyone have any idea where to start with a grass roots program out here? I've contacted the regional US Lacrosse chapter and haven't heard anything back yet. I also contacted the head of the youth programs in charlotte, and he suggested that I start there. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Here is a link to US Lacrosse's New Start Program http://www.uslacrosse.org/programs/newstartprogram.phtml I would contact them directly. You might also contact some manufacturers directly who would be interested in helping foster a new lacrosse community.

You should see if the youth program in Charlotte could send a couple of all-star teams to your area for an exhibition (better yet to get high school or college teams to showcase how cool the sport is. Once your local gets see it, you will be swamped with kids wanting to play.

Good luck!
