I've been thinking about Mars Volta and ATDI quite a bit. I heard ATDI's EP Vaya is absolutely amazing. But I want Frances the Mute a lot, because www.stylusmagazine gave it such a high rating. Never trust Pitchfork for its reviews of Mars Volta, because they're wrong. www.tinymixtapes.com is also pretty good. But from what I've heard of Frances the Mute, it's pretty awesome. Another fantastic prog rock band. But you're right, ATDI is probably better, but Mars Volta isn't far behind.

They're both amazing. Sparta is good, too, but just doesn't have the same energy.

Sorry, I'll have to disagree with everyone and say the Volta is way better.

I like the Mars Volta, they are alot different than music I'd normally listen to, but they are good..

But they are different genres of music... you can't really compare them.

just becuase they are different doesnt mean they cant be compared. i just think that at the drive in has a lot more energy in there music , which is something i like more. its all preferance of course. i dont really like sparta just becuase they are wayyyyy to mellow.

No... At-The Drive In is punk and it shows that perfectly. Sparta is more Alternative rock, and Mars Volta is prog.

3 different genres.

I haven't heard any Sparta. But I'd also agree with Enjoi on this. Mars Volta is definitely prog, and ATDI definitely isn't the same. Of course, I love prog, and want to hear a lot more of it, but then again, there's other stuff I'd rather buy. But I am buying Elbow today. Should be good. Also starting to love The Walkmen and other stuff. And I bought my Shins tickets. $26.00. Stupid service charge. Anyway, while I think that ATDI is slightly better in their genre, prog has a ton of growing room, and Mars Volta is doing a lot of discovery. Comparing ATDI and Mars Volta is like comparing Radiohead's Kid A and OK Computer. It can't really be done. You can't really ask which is the better album. They're both the best I've ever heard. Which means every other album I've loved would have to take the #3 spot, because there is no #2 spot. Hmmm. I'm going to go buy Cast of Thousands now. Elbow's music videos are so cool.

Raine: why didn't you just buy them at the door/venue?

Bloc Party was 13 bucks, and The Futureheads are going to be 16 bucks. F- YEAH!

Whoa. Eevee. Sweet.

Because they could be sold out! Besides that, I paid in change. I love having a change jar. It sort of makes me feel wealthy. Like, that I have something just in case. Show is May 11, so that's like, 3+ weeks away. This is actually my cheapest concert, so I'm not really complaining. Radiohead was $35, and I would have paid double in an instant.

Just like enjoi said, I also agree that you can't compare these two bands. That's like comparing Britney Spears with Reel Big Fish. Their styles are both different. Sparta is mellower because the style of music they play isn't as energetic as ATDI's.

i love the mars volta mainly because they fit in with the type of music i listen to. cedric, the singer, has amazing talent as a writer and omar, i think, should be on the top 100 greatest guitar players.

i absolutely hate mainstream bands of today.

For Mars Volta, all I've heard from them is most of the songs on De-Loused in the Comatorium. Amazing CD, Televators probably is my favorite song off of it. As for ATDI i've heard most of their stuff off of Relationship Command. One Armed Scissor and Quarantined are my favorite songs off of it. Has anyone ever seen ATDI in concert or a video? They always do crazy stuff on stage.
