Who has seen the top HS teams in NC? I know the private school league is shaping up and will wrap up the regular season in about two weeks. Teams are ranked as follows:
1T)Providence Day
1T)Durham Academy
3)Charlotte Latin
4)Charlotte Country Day
5T)Cardinal Gibbons
5T)Forsyth Day

Durham Academy and Providence Day have rolled through in state competitors and play head to head this week. Latin, Providence Day and Country Day all play each other one more time before playoffs. Currently the best players in the state appear to be D'Allessandro from Country Day (JR. ATT) and Nevitt from Providence Day (SR. MID). DA has a couple of real good individuals, but they seem to be a more balanced team.

In the Public Schools it seems to shake out this way from what I know:

1)East Chapel Hill
2)Apex
4)Mt. Tabor
4)Grimsley
5)Durham Riverside
Others: Chapel Hill, Charlotte Catholic, Western Guilford, and RJ Reynolds.

East Chapel Hill seems to be a cut above the rest (again), but Apex is nipping at their heels with only one loss (to ECHS 5-2). Apex is a really well coached team that can be very dangerous come playoffs when its one and done. The rest of the pack is littered with one goal wins and losses. Too close to call at this time. Gates Benson is a real nice player for ECHS (SR. DEF) and Tony Mendes is a real good all-around middie for the East. The keeper from Mt. Tabor is one of the top in the state. Who else is having a good year in the public league?

You're right about private except that i play for christ school and we beat forsyth pretty well on tuesday..they really arent that great of a team..we'll fight greensboro for pretty much the number six spot on friday.

providence day beat duram on friday 9-8 in overtime for the outright number one, fyi.

Huge game on Monday between ECHHS and DA. NC laxers, any thoughts on the game between two of the top programs in the state? I don't believe that ECHHS has ever beaten DA. Both are great teams DA (9-2 and #4 in the state overall) and ECHHS (12-0 and #1 in the state).

me again. Who do you all think will make all- state, public or private. I myself am a public school guy and living in the triangle. Any of you know of players from other parts of the state who can contend with the stronger players of the triangle and a few of the traid schools?

Most players outside of the triangle don't respect triangle players

And why is that? They have proven that they are better skilled and put together better teams year after year. IMO they should be respected until other schools play with them.

Overall, the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area is traditionally stronger than other areas (DA, Gibbons, CHHS, ECHHS, Riverside and now Apex). Some of these programs are down a bit this year though. Other areas have good teams, but lack the depth of competition the Triangle area has.

Greensboro Grimsley and Western Guilford are having good seasons in the Greensboro area and Mount Tabor and RJ Reynolds are the best in Winston-Salem. Other than the Triangle area, Charlotte seems to have become the best match for the Triangle teams. Providence Day finally got over the hump on Durham Academy. Latin and Country Day (as always)are contenders. It used to be that Country Day was the only Charlotte program anyone knew about, but that has certainly changed. Providence High (although not Varsity) has had wins this year and last against many Triangle/Greensboro area teams, as has Catholic even though they are struggling a bit this spring.

As for all-state (private), expect to see these names somewhere on the list (first or second team):

Nevitt, Mann, Peretsman, Zande, Woolard, McNamara (PDS) Williams x 2, Sloate, Wellman (DA), Chandler, Dalton, Schwab, Starbuck (CLS) D'Allessandro, Edgerton, Furr (CCDS)Lambert, Goalie (FCDS).

Right now I'd say the private school all-americans would have to be Nevitt and D'Allessandro. These are pretty clear cut unlike in the past years where there were 4-5 kids that were deserving.

Duram Academy beat East Chapel Hill 7-6 monday night, thus giving PD outright NC #1

It's nice to see DA bounce back from a tough loss in a hard fought game. They will be a major factor come play-offs (maybe a PD/DA rematch).

One note of interest; the top three NC teams (PDS, DA and ECHHS) all have brand new coaching staffs.

Check lax power, East is still #1. Tough loss for the east crew, being at the game, it came down to clears and faceoffs. East couldn't clear towards the end when it counted forcing their D to play almost the entire fourth quarter against DA's high powered offense.
