Everyone...i need help and alot of it. i have been having so many problems latley i dont know wut has beent up.

My school jsut got report cards and i have a C in math. i am in a above grade levle class with a hard core teacher, this guy gives NO extra cridit and when you have finshed a chapter or something theres NO turing back to see if you get it he moves FAST! in the past i have H-A-T-E-D math!! i mean i cry and scream over it because its not my thing. i have mainaied good grades i mean the lowest on a report card was and is a C. My parnets dont like the fact that i have a C although it is passing they dont like it because they know i know and my teacher knows i can do better. i have no clue how to improve. i mean i get everything in class but when tests come i FREAK! and i fail them. im SO scared to go to my parents too because im afriad they will yell and all that. i mean i know you are suposed to trust your parents with everything but i jus am afriad. maybe all you highschoolers or collage people out there no what im talking about (im a 7th grader) so if i could please get some tips on what to do. because im trying and working my butt off to pull straight As this year and if i cant do that then ATLEAST a B in math. i was doing good in the beginning of the year but now it has jus dropped. and my parents are threating to take my friends n socail life away, i mean it sort of already has because i come home wiat for them to get home check math n go to right to lacrosse and b the time i get home its like 7 and theres no time to do ne thing. so if i could PLEASE get some help that would be great. thanks reply soon.

It would be easier to help if we knew what specific problem you wanted us to help with. Is it the material you don't understand, test anxiety, or just course anxiety? Parents can be surprisingly helpful and supportive if you approach them BEFORE crap hits the fan as opposed to after so it looks like you're proactively looking for a solution and not just a copout.

7th grade? I think in seventh grade, I was still being a super slacker. It was halfway through 8th grade that I started trying in school. But I still managed A's and B's. Yeah, honestly, I've never studied for a math test. And I got over 100 on every test I've taken this semester in math. Does your teacher let you listen to music during a test? That's what I do. It helps. And don't think about your grade. You probably know the stuff, so just sit down and think through it. I never panic on tests. Even on tests I know I'm going to fail (AP Chem) I just sit down and take it, and if I don't know something, I just kind of move through it. Then I go back, and if I still don't know it, I turn the test in and forget about it. I'm one of the least stressed kids I know, so I guess that's part of it. I have a hard time working myself up over school, but now I'm trying. 3.75 GPA, yo.

well i mean its everything like theres some lessons that i wiz by and have no problem with but other things just dont get through my head. like converting fractions is so simple! but porportions (sp?) jus get stuck and i ask questions but all my teacher dose is explain them the SAME exact way until finaly i jus have to say fine i get it when really i only get part of it. i mean this guy is WACK! so... i really dont know :-( and i know paretns can be helpful its just whenever i have a small problem and ask them it turns into a WHOLE lesson when all i needed was to make sure like tis the right problem or something. thanks

my GPA is like 3.2 :-( i had ALL As 3 Bs and one C and that C was in math. The Bs are now up to As because of things i do. My problem used to be lagauge arts but now im pulling an A in there scinece and Socail studies are no problem so i have As in there sometimes a B in scinece but its all good. and then band...easy A same with p.e so if i can bring my grade up in math my life is clear, i mean math is like blocking me right now and i dont like it :-(

I think English class should be your main concern. But, honestly, seventh grade math really doesn't matter. Learn the stuff, but don't lose sleep over it. I'm not trying to lead you on a wrong path or anything, but don't get too worked up over it. Just try your best and show your parents you're putting some effort in.

i am and my grade in language is fine now its just they want me to focus on math :-/ I want good grades i mean they think i dont care when i do!! so its fine about what your saying say anything i dont care really! its just, im not happy and they are not happy. and im going to try alot harder its just i feel that when i try i fail and when i dont try i still fail so either way im bombing tests and not doing good. maybe its the teacher i have no clue. last year i was pulling 100% A! because my teacher was awseome! and we are best friends this year and i may get extra help he has an awesome name too lol Mr.MOJO! ha well back on subject....i really dont know but say anything i dont care and you will not hurt me.

well if ur parents are willing, u should get a tutor. or find someone in ur class to work with u once or twice a week with u for an hour. the one on one attention should help.

and whoever said that 7th grade math doesnt matter is totally wrong. u need to know the basics of algebra and geometry to do well in higher level math classes. and if she is struggling with proportions and other relatively simple operations now then she may be in over her head next year when she needs to apply what she is learning this year to what she learns next year.

so the point is keep working hard. get extra help from ur teacher, friends, parents, siblings, etc. and relax during tests. if u start freaking out and dont know what to do, even tho u knew it the day before, just take a deep breath and take it one step at a time. dont rush and u need to think everything through carefully.
math doesnt come easy to everyone (like raine) and some people (like maybe you) have to work extra hard at it. and if u really want to succeed and understand it, you will.

dont be scared to tell ur parents that u are struggling. if they see u putting sincere effort in they shouldnt get mad. hopefully they will be understanding and try to help you.

sorry i tend to take forever to say one little thing. i have a problem with talking too much at times. i was just trying to help her with her math/school/parent problem

and im sorry for the long post, but u dont need to post if u arent going to be constructive or contribute anything to the thread or topic. if u dont like my long posts u dont have to read them, but its not nessesary to post with no real purpose.

piratesmiddie-PM me if u need any mroe advice. and let all of us know how it goes! i hope u start understanding and improving in ur math class. good luck!!

Nobody can match my PM length skills. I tried writing a book about Star Wars in 2nd grade, and got to page 27. Then I got bored of it. So yeah, some of us write a lot, dlaxer, so get used to it! And remember PM17, just chill out on tests. They aren't as life-changing as you think.

yea last year in pre algebra i had a teacher that didnt teach us, we just talked about baseball the whole class. So this year i don't understand any of it, so i have to go and see the teacher every day but that really helps out. like i've raised my grade about 10 points so just work through it and go get extra help. If your teacher cant help you, find a tutor that can, like at my school the honor society kids have to tutor once a week so i just go to them when i don't get it

also math builds on what you have already learned, so you should go back start reviewing and making sure you know how to do what you got wrong on your tests.

Wow, word for word story of my life. Of course I found out my sophmore year that I needed a 504 plan all along. Get tested for dyslexia and stuff like that, seriously. Im the same way, some things i dont even study for and I ace the tests, others I fail no matter how hard i try. As for advice, if you want the tried and true tough love, hit the books, every night. Do your homework the night you get it. Study your butt off, and be happy with what you get. If you get a C in a class, big deal it happens, if it really means that much to you then it shouldnt happen again. On tests Ive been the same way, I literally shake when I take math and science tests. Im more nervous taking a math test than I am getting up in front of the whole school and performing a play. If i study as much as I can and know what is going to be on the test that seems to help. Given the anti-long post sentiments in this thread, if you read one thing, read this, get tested for dyslexia/etc. You sound exactly like I did, I mean exactly. Some things click in your mind, some dont. I cant do long division and im 16years old and taking IB statistics, it just doesnt work for me. PM if you have any questions or anything, math or otherwise, ill try to help.

Just be sure to take notes and look over them for a little while at night or during some free time. Also during tests, I often make stupid mistakes but I don't go back to check my work so i get the problem wrong just from some stupid basic mistake such as adding or multiplying (I'm a senior in high school in AP Calculus BC) so yeah those are really stupid mistakes that could be solved by checking my work. So be sure to check your work! lol

seriously raine wins teh lengthy PM contest. he is very talented indeed

however testing for dyslexia/ADD could be helpful if thats ur problem. make sure to always pay attention in class and do ur homework if u dont understand. and if ur teacher repeats himself in the same way, get a freidn or class mate to explain it to u differently if u get a chance after class or soemthing.

yeah today was a little bit better. so i think im going to see my old math teacher like once a week and take some good notes or as best i can of notes and try to pay attention in class. because also 2 of my best friends asre in that class, one is pulling an A cuz hes a boy :-P the other shes pulling i guess a low B and she CHEATED on a test and got a 94 A so im sure that brought it up. she took the test home, like she didnt turn it in and she told her parents that it was a worksheet and so they gave her the answers and she brought it back saying oops i forgot and she wound up geting a A on it :-/ so idk but im going to try harder

the best thing you can do is to stay after school and talk to him individually. he'll go as slow as you want... almost any math teacher will do this with you, as most realize math isnt the easiest thing in the world for some kids. last year, i took ap calculus and it was the first time in my life i had trouble with math, and just seein the teacher once or twice a week after school made a world of difference. i pulled my grade from a 55 to an 84.
