View Full Version : My First Time Playing Goalie
Tragedy

So I play for wheeler in marietta. On monday our goalie quit, so i decided, hey why not play goalie. I have the hand eye coordination and i play goalie in hockey. So i try it out and the coach wants me to start in the last game of the season against Blessed Trinity. Im nervous the whole day and i get to the game. The refs were complete bull**** as usual. First quarter i let in 4 off of like 14 shots or something. (My defense sucks, they never hit people in the crease so 90% of the shots the whole game are kids winding up point blank. Let alone from the fact my offense cant keep the ball in the damn offensive side of the zone for more than 10 seconds.) The second quarter i let in 5. Third i let in 2. Last quarter i let in 0. So they win 11-2. My team is garbage. I faced thirty plus shots. Let 11 in. Just for comparison their goalie took 3 shots and let in 2. I think i did well for my first time ever playing goalie. Its really fun but i just hate taking point blank shots off my leg and forearm.

kick ***...wish my other goalie quit...we keep losing by a 10-14 point difference every Varsity game she starts and I havent let more than 4 goals in in a single game, Then my coach puts me in last 15 mins to save the teams ***...(thank god shes a senior and graduating this spring)
once again welcome to the cage....its a fun place to be.

sometimes i wish i was a goalie besides attack for somereason. i really thinks its a cool position.. if i was only a lil bit taller , cuz im really short (5'3).

Dont worry about the goals too much, there is only so much you can do. But give it time and youll get better. Some people think were crazy but i think its fun.
Youll sorta get used to the shots off the leg and arms, but learn how to take care of them (an ice pack and heating pad should be your best friend if you turn into the starter).

as a goalie your the captain let your defense know what they should be doing about the guys on the crease about slides and and everything else. that will give you less shots and fewer chances of getting hit and letting in so many goals.

you shouldnt really blame anyone for getting scored on ok maybe your d isnt the best but tell them what to do dont blame them. it's a team sport and your just as much a part of the team as they are, you lose and win as a team. if you get scored on pick your head up and learn from it dont go blaming your d because believe it or not it dosent help you or them. good job by the way

plummer, i agree with you to a certain exetent...i mean, it had to go through all of them to be able to get to the goalie, the d should know what to do, too. but then again, the goalie should be instructing them the whole game and part of the job of the goalie is, obviously, stopping shots. it goes both ways. but when you're scored on, you really cant think about what happened. my defense and i have a quick huddle and talk about what happened and if we need to do something differently, but after that you just have to let it go and only focus on the next ball coming your way. as far as taking shots off you leg and arms....its can bruise you, cant hurt you :) good job and good luck man
