Hey Lax Yo's!
I just started playin lax this past fall. My coach said i didnt have good wheels, so he stuck me in the cage. The past couple weeks, I have been getting hit in my shin bones and it hurts. So, I started to wear these big hockey leg pads and I am a Tilman Jackson look-alike. Are these the right pads to wear?? What do the big time D-1 tenders wear?

Next time please post a question like this in the equipment forum. To answer your question, most goalies wear sweatpants, but I am pretty sure they sell special goalie pants.

If you mean hockey goalie leg pads, that's illegal. If you mean skater shin pads, that's kind of pointless, they just added bulk. If your just starting out, the most you should need is some soccer-style shin pads. and as far as equipment, especially at the college level, most goalies you come across wear the bare minimum (chest protector, cup, helmet, throat guard, and gloves).

Doughrety (Sp??), Scott Smith, and Rob Mulligan all wore shin pads, but that was only on one leg and it was cuz it was bumbed. I rock sweats cuz i justfeels more normal. Also at a high level its nearly impossible to get low shots with anything besides a shin. When you step to the ball it hurts less.

Your coach must be pretty bad to force you into goal because you are slow.
Do you like to play it? Because if you don't you should tell your coach that.

Yea, I didnt really wana play the tender position, but my coach insisted cause i have a really large, undveloped frame. Aside from the pain, i guess its kind of fun. Ive tried to play the attack, but i dont have the stick for it so i just get thrown back in the net. Oh well, i guess we all have to make sacrfices in our life sometime. I think you could say its just for the love of the game. Hit me back---bobbo :bye:

Hmmmm my suggestion is to just work out and run alot, so that you develop more muscule, and if you still don't like getting hit by the ball after you've conditioned yourself, try and get your coach to see that you'd be better on the field than in the goal. If he refuses to change your position, he is one of the worst coaches I have ever heard of.

lol brickwall your coach sounds like a ****head, he said your not fast, anf fat... Im a small goalie, 5'6, 120 JV level (Im a freshman) all i wear is , tiny chest pad, cup, throat gaurd, gloves. SweatPants are pretty much only for when i play turf becuase it rips my kness when i hit the ground...

I use the quad pads - they save some unnecessary bruises when you drop to take a bounce shot from above, or when you go out running down the field.
Shin pads? In box, they use 'em, but I have never in my life seen a field player in Men's wear shins.

i used to be a really bad goalie(ahhh chillin on attack now), but the pain was one of the best parts of the position. the pain of making a save is one of the most satisfying pains ever. Just my opinion though :) just go out there with ur basic goalie stuff (cup, helmet/neck, chest, gloves) and let em hit u. Eventually u just stop feeling em (i was walkin by a warmup at a tourney and a ball hit my shin, bounced back to the umd club team and i just kept walkin without feelin it at all)

You guys complain about gettin' hit
come on it's part of the game. Yeah it's gonna hurt but you have to get hit enough so that it doesn't hurt
my coach makes me throw my stic to the side and he shoots on me with my hands behind my back

if ur afraid to get hit, put ur stick down, in full pads, and let people just start rippin em at u and make body saves. You will never be afraid of gettin hit again

:thumbsdow thats a pretty bad idea. what exactly would that accomplish besides turning his whole body black and blue?? yeah, body saves happen but why practice making them when you can practice getting your hand-eye coordination better and quicker movement so you can make stick saves??

pain is just weakness leaving the body. That's what my goalie coach said. So let them hit you and make it seem like nothing. Even if you are afraid of being hit don't let anyone else know it, cause then they'll think you are weak and a bad goalie. Eventually you will get more used to it, and it won't seem as bad.

you might turn black and blue at first, but you wont have to be scared of teh ball hittin you because u already know what it feels like. After a while it really doesnt hurt at all when u get hit so it just kind of builds up a tolerance much quicker.
