Ok, right now I'm really fed up with my coach, he has 0 experiance when it comes to playing lacrosse, and has never heard of the term 'defensive midfielder' in his life. The sad part is because of that I don't get to play nearly as often as I should, and all my skills go unnoticed. I'm known as the fast kid on my team and that's about it, I tried talking with him, but he takes any and all suggestions as demands and disregards them, I'm taking a deep thought about quiting my JV squad and practicing all summer so I can play on varsity next year.
Lacrosse isn't fun when you don't get playtime and your coach doesn't have any clue what he's talking about and has never actually played or watched a lacrosse game (besides the ones he coaches) in his life. The worst thing is other players on my team with talent are also getting the shaft (no pun intended) pure talent is becoming waterboys and benched warmers and honestly I can't stand to be on a team that works that way.
Sorry if I'm ranting but I really needed to get that weight off my shoulders. I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a scenario like this, and what would/did you do about it.
Thanks to anyone that replies,
Eddie

Quitting wouldnt help you get on varsity, it would def. look bad to the coaches...play through it and just work you *** of on your own time as well...you will still have all summer to work...quitting wont help

Fortunetly at Notre Dame we have two coaches who played all 4 years at Marquette so they know alot and know whats going on.
Should you quit? NO! Stick it out. Go to every practice and just work your *** off. Not getting any playing time on JV but giving 100 percent will look better when going out for Var next year than quitting JV. Go to camps over summer. Do everything you can to improve your game. The varsity coaches will recognize your talent and you will get the PT you deserve. Good luck....I think we play your freshmen sunday

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'm going to take your advice and ride it thru, to answer some questions:
fenwick: I play for GBS
NHDS: Only varsity's coach has ever played lacrosse, and unfortunatly he is their coach exclusivly. Yeah, our freshies play your guys, I think it's Saturady though.
I'll let everyone know how everything goes.

Pulse I'm assuming you're talking about Harris or that other pseudo-coach. I graduated from South last year, and I've seen his style firsthand. There's really not much you can do about him, just work on your individual skills and next year Jones will probably recognize talent if you show it. I got the shaft sophomore year from the former Varsity coach but as a result I became a far better player. Plus you always have TI and camps as options to build your rep if you have designs on playing in college.

Ash, Harris stopped coaching JV this year, now the former freshman coach (Klasen) is teaching and possibly the worst lacrosse coach I've ever seen is coaching our freshman team of 12 kids.
I'm just hoping Jones does notice me, as I intend to try-out for varsity next year, and I might play LSM instead.
Thanks Again.

Pulse, 1 more reason not to quit. You won't realize how much you miss it till you aren't playing. Like our team last year, we were nasty and then the hazing bs happened and we didn't get to compete for the state title. I don't think I've ever been angrier than at not having a senior season.

DON'T QUIT! I've played for a coach who had never picked up a stick before in his life and took a lot of crap from him because of his view on how to play the game. Many people were surprised I didn't quit with the way he treated me, but I was determined to work hard and prove him wrong. Stick with the game, you may find it hard but if you play to win your going to show this coach you know what you're doing and you'll get more playtime.

Talk to the coach. If he's really that bad, I'm sure he wouldn't mind you helping out.

dont quit whatever you do. if your coach wont listen to you in person try sending him and email and if he writes back being a jerk to you than you have proof of it and can show it to your athletic director. make sure to copy someone on the email so there is proof that you sent it.

just work, that's all you can do. if there's one thing any coach can recognize and appreciate it is hard work.
