From an interview on NHL2Nite on ESPN2, the Detroit RedWings Captain was asked about the NHL strike that is impending for next season. When aske what he would do in the absence of the NHL, Steve Yzerman expressed interest in getting involved in the NLL. His only concern is how the current players strike is affecting the league.
Yzerman was stated as interested in bringing box lacrosse back to the Detroit area, for the first time since 1996, when the MILL (Major Indoor Lacrosse League) sported the Detroit Turbos.

This kind of thing is exactly what lax needs, high profile people ( with deep pockets) talking about and investing in lacrosse.

id be the odd man out to say im not a detroit fan at all. but i have to say that is one of the best things ive heard for a while about ppl being interested. if he could bring it back to detroit, then that would be fricking great! that would greatly help out in the fan base department. and money too

I didn't know Yzerman had any interest in lacrosse. I would have expected this from Brendan Shanahan first. He's a former box player, and he used to co-host a charity lacrosse game every summer in Canada. If Yzerman can make it happen, this great news. The Turbos were quite successful in Detroit. The franchise only folded because of contractual issues with the Ilitch family, who own the Red Wings, Tigers and Joe Louis Arena. It was drawing plenty of fans, and people in Michigan still talk about it 10 years later.

PaulGaitRulz....Mr. Gait is a cooperating consultant in Arizona. His plate is already full. But thats not to say that if this ever does come to reality, that he won't at least consider a better job offer.
Netrip41....I doubt that Stevy Y came up with this plan all on his own, nor would he be able to fund the team by himself either. I would expect that some collection of investors (say possibly teammates) would be needed.
I too am excited about even the mere mentioning of this on a national network, in regards to a legitimate plan from a high profile person like Yzerman. The NLL needs exposure like this, to even drum up interest in the existing markets, as well as the ones that could come very soon.

it was prob cancelled b/c the fanbase for such a game in detroit isnt there. It would be better off elsewhere...

CD, the Turbos were a highly successful team. The only reason why they disbanded was because of internal problems with the ownership. Putting a new team in Detroit with a quality owner, would not only be a great idea, but it would be highly successful.

its the same thing with wat happened to columbus. although they didnt have a large attendnece, it wuz mainly b/c of the terrible ownership. hardly anyone around the columbus area knew they even had a team.

yeah they should have the all star game in charlotte. and the half time show should be CDLax and his amazing flying pigs.
detroit would have been a good place. i think that it would have gotten younger kids interested in the sport if it had been heavily advertised.

I don't think the NLL will ever go back to Charlotte after the fiasco they had there with the Cobras. Yes, back in 1996, the Charlotte Cobras were the WORST lacrosse team EVER! They did not win one game, nor were they ever even close. They had hardly any talent, and had even less fan support. The team was dismantled after one season, and hardly anyone ever wants to talk about them.
No, the All Star Game should just stay in successful NLL cities....
