Proton is lighter for starters, it's also more flexy.

MLP, didn't I already tell you to stop posting in the wrong forum? Really not that hard. I mean, that's at least 3 that I know of. Get it straight. I'm sick of moving threads.

Wrong way, buddy.

Protons are about 5 years old, and AV8's are one. They were designed as a beginner's alternative to a Proton. It offers a slightly different sidewall design, and most importanted a significantly lesser degree of offset. The AV8 is pretty close to being a straight head, while Protons are very offset.

Protons (I THINK) are lighter than AV8's, and Protons are stiffer. Think of an AV8 as a poor man's Proton, in some ways. AV8's also nearly always come as a complete stick and strung with soft mesh.
