Situation 1:
A1 and B1 (FO men) scrumming for possession. Ball squirts out toward wing man as A1 rolls over B1 in a 2 man pileup, ala football. Both get up quickly. Call or no fall?
Situation 2:
A1 (FO man) rakes ball toward wing man and then checks B1 (other FO man) out of play. Lots of yelling by other team at him. He says "we're within 5 yards of the ball". Call or No Call?
Situation 3: (Not FO, but I just remembered it)
A5 and B5 (I'm bored with A1 and B1) going for loose ball with A6,7 and B6,7. Possession gained by B6. A5 and B5 somehow get pocket netting of their crosses intertwined, and both are frantically attempting to "untangle" the netting as their crosses are attached and both are out of the play. Each is yelling for a call other. Call or No Call?

If on purpose, tripping, send A to box, award to B. If during normal course of action and A1 simply lost his footing, no call. Hey, kids fall!

If within five yards, entirely legal. If not, illegal body check or interference, take your pick depending upon the severity. But he IS entitled to body check the FO guy if w/in five yards, no different than any other time.

Situation 3: (Not FO, but I just remembered it)
A5 and B5 (I'm bored with A1 and B1) going for loose ball with A6, 7 and B6, 7. Possession gained by B6. Tough one. This happened to us with a player's glove string getting caught in the helmet of an opponent. It was a loose ball, the official blew the whistle, and awarded possession by AP. It seemed very reasonable. I don't see any cases that specifically address this issue. But would I kill a fast break for this "tangled web"? No.

If it just happens, no call--provided the one guy doesn't keep the other guy out of the play by continuing to lay on top of him (it he does, holding or interference is called). If it's intentional, you can all a number of things depending on exactly what you saw.

Situation 2:

No call if they're within 5 yards of the ball and it's otherwise a legal check. You need to be careful, though, since often one faceoff guy will be on the ground, in which case he can't be checked.

Situation 3: (Not FO, but I just remembered it)

CoachRob is right; it's not directly addressed. I think you kill the play unless there's a legitimate scoring opportunity and award the ball to whoever had it or via A.P. I would want to kill the play ASAP because this sort of thing can lead to an "incident" as both players get increasingly frustrated as they try to free themselves. If you need a rule to justify it, call simultaneous holding fouls on both players and kill the play immediately.

I "no called" in all 3 situations (whew). In the 3rd situation, there was a fast break in progress, in fact a score, with each team being short a man.

I hadn't considered "an incident", and one was not occuring, but something I should watch for.
