This hasn't come-up in any of my games but...

6-3-2 ...Holding is permitted under the following conditions:

a. an opponent with posession of the ball or within 5 yards of a loose ball may be held from the front or side.

If player A1 is holding B1-leagally via 6-3-2-a (as described) is he permitted to violate any of the critera which would normally be called as a hold...For example if these 2 players are within 5 yards of a loose ball, could A1 use his free hand to hold the crosse of B1? My years of lacrosse experience and logic would tell me no...the rules read otherwise however

I see what you're getting at...

6-3-2 is just an exception of how you can hold someone, as long as you do not violate 6-3-1.

Hope that makes sense.

You didn't read far enough:

b. Holding is permitted under the following conditions:

(1) An opponent with possession of the ball or within five yards of a loose ball may be held from the front or side.

(2) An opponent in possession of the ball may be played with a hold check from the rear if the hold exerts no more than equal pressure.

For (1) and (2), a hold check must be done with either closed hand, shoulder or forearm; and both hands must be on the crosse.

So I think the rules really do coincide with your thinking, provided you read "on the crosse" to mean "on his own crosse"

There is no wording like that in the Fed. rulebook, it sounds like it should be there though.

I see. I read it as the def. of holding and then some specific times when you could hold. not how you pointed it out.

This forum is a great place.
