If you're talking about a deep pocket, yes, in NCAA and NFHS lacrosse, that's the rule.

NFHS- Rule 1, section 8- The pocket shall be deemed to have sagged too deeply if the top surface of a lacrosse ball, when placed therein, is below the bottom edge of the side wall (this prohibition does not apply to the goalkeeper's crosse).
NCAA- from Rule 1
Crosse—Prohibitions
SECTION 19. No player shall use a crosse that does not meet the specifications of Sections 18 and 19. Furthermore, crosses in which the pocket has sagged to such a depth that it has become difficult for an opponent to dislodge the ball and crosses in which the construction or stringing at the bottom is designed to withhold the ball from play also are prohibited. Additionally, no player may use a crosse that has stringing that retards the normal and free dislodgment of the ball by an opponent. The pocket shall be deemed to have sagged too deeply if the top surface of a lacrosse ball, when placed therein, is below the bottom edge of the side wall (this prohibition does not apply to the goalkeeper’s crosse). A crosse that has been altered in such a way as to give an advantage to an individual is illegal.

Now when it says placed therein, that means that they can't push the ball down while it is sitting in, to see if it illegal. Correct? Meaning they don't set the ball in there and push it down right?

The officials should not be pushing the ball down to see if they can stretch the pocket to the point where it is illegal. They should just set the ball in there, or maybe toss the ball up in the air lightly and catch it.

The official should definitely not push the ball down. However, the official may use a normal cradling motion to settle the ball into the spot where the player carries the ball. Then the pocket is at its playing depth and can be checked for legal depth.
