I'm trying to get bigger, especially now that lacrosse is over for the season and I have much more time to work out etc... I'm 6'0" 145lbs and was wondering if anyone could reccomend any sort of supplements or anything to gain weight. Also, what sort of workout and eating habits should I stick to to make it the most effective and happen as quickly as possible?

Don't take creatine. I wanted to but my dad said no because he says it messes up your liver or something. go all natural with some protein and just eat alot. get a gym membership and hit the gym also. the people there should be able to help you devise a workout plan.

You're 6', 145lbs? Do you float away when there is a stiff breeze?
Eat lots of protein, yadda yadda, lots of good carbs (multigrain breads and pastas, potatoes, fruits and vegetables). And drink 2-3 protein shakes a day. Have one gram of protein for every pound of body weight and 2-3 grams of (good)carbs for every pound of body weight. So you'll need to eat about 145g's of protein and between 300-400g's of good carbs a day. Also, work out in shifts - shoulders, bi-ceps one day, triceps chest the next day with abs and back thrown in there for off days or alternate work outs. Make sure you sleep 8 hours every night and cut out the booze. You'll be over 165 by september.

Lol. Almost. Just a couple things. Is there a specific type of protein shake I should be drinking? Also, what kind of meats should I be eating? Red meats like beef/steak or like poultry chicken, turkey, etc...

creatine takes all the water out of your body and puts it into your muscles...
so its very hard to stay hydrated...youre supposed to drink something like an ounce of water per pound of your body per day...so you'd have to be drinkin 140 ounces of water a day...not that great....you'll have to piss a lot, and come game time...you'll come out cramping and having to drink more water than imaginable....ive tried it...stopped half way through fall ball....trust me, its not for the lax player
also, its water weight, not muscle, so you'll become less manuverable...
protein is always a good choice...as long as youre using it, if you dont, it will form a stomach....try to use more than just protein though, get the kind with some other nutrients in it...
if youre real serious, there are some other things...like nos and things to stack with protien, but...you have to be really working out...not just doing some crunches every night

Don't listen to Conrice, there isn't one study out there that shows creatine is a bad product. NOT ONE. What connie here said is an old, old stereotype.
http://www.bullz-eye.com/furci/2002/070201.htm
"Creatine is probably the most studied supplement there is. It came under fire a few years back with concerns about dehydration and cramping. These concerns were put to rest after many researchers found no link between creatine and dehydration among athletes. After literally hundreds of studies there appears to but no negative side effects associated with creatine usage."
If you don't feel like believing this guy, go here: http://www.bullz-eye.com/furci/default.htm
and read his biography. Have a nice day.

ok...the FDA wont touch approval of creatine, that is why its understudied...its going to be an underground thing until 20 yrs from now cuz no one knows what will happen. it hasnt been proven to be bad yet and it also HASNT BEEN PROVEN TO BE FREE OF ADVERSE AFFECTS either. Its the internet, if you want to believe some doctor that is endorced by met-rx to write some report about creatine...go ahead...i dont believe him because ive had MD pharmacist talk to me about it in person...my sister....
Creatine doesnt have a whole lot to do with ATP (cept maybe all the sugar in it). It has to do with flushing water through your muscle cells (creating swelling (bigger muscles)) and the flushing flushes out lactic acid ( lactic acid creates "the burn" that you feel at the end of your reps) so that you can do more reps than usual...thats what its all about. whats that mean kids? that the doctor decker mentioned isnt being fully honest when he says its not for endurance sports as ragnut's link showed in the soccer thing.
REASONS WHY ITS NOT FOR LAX SEASON
cramping because your muscle cells will need water - im a living example of that
makes you piss a lot! (about every class period in school) - also a living example of that
water weight is not what you want for lax, you want lean muscle. if you want to "break-ankles", build lean muscle
do you want further debate decker?
ok, what is considered to be the most potent supplement of all time?
steroids....which is testosterone
the point of taking testosterone wasnt necessarily to just have more testosterone in your body, it was that your body converts a lot of testosterone into estrogen, and when you put a lot of testosterone in your body, for some reason, your body didnt create hardly any estrogen anymore
testosterone by itself eliminates water retention (more lean muscle) which is the opposite of creatine
Estrogen creates fat and deminishes lean muscle, making estrogen a bad thing for athletes because of the water retention that makes kids "soft"
now, i dont wanna hijack the thread and turn this into a steroids thing, cuz all of us obviously know that that is not the answer
my point by bringing up steroids was that it was proven to work (def not for the longterm), and it almost did the opposite of what creatine does.
my other point is that it will create cramping, i dont care what anyone says because it does, i noticed it and i was constantly downing water. Water cannot create cramps, only lack of water can. Creatine created kidney stones in one of my friends because he didnt drink enough water...
One last thing...the second you get off creatine (and youre supposed to cycle it), that mass that you gained will go away, so it wont make you bigger permenantly, just short term.
if you want to use creatine correctly, go for it. go to GNC and ask the guys there about it.. they will tell you to cycle it and not use it for extended periods of time.. dont load it like most people say to do, it wastes the creatine. You'll get diarreha (sp)
because the excess water will flush out some of the unused creatine that you loaded. a regular dose of supplemental creatine is already a natural overdose for your body..

If you know what you're doing, creatine is fine for you, I'm not gonna argue about it though, just do a forum search on this website for 'creatine.' Everyone has their sources, but there are a lot more people who support it than not, it never cause problems for me.
Ok, protein, there are three basic types, regular(carb free), weight gainer(3:2 carb to protein ratio), and night time(miccellar, slow digesting). Take regular before you work out, weight gainer 45min-1hr after you work out, and miccellar 10-20min before you sleep. Take a note though, this much protein will cost quite a bit, so if you're going to do it, shop around, you can get 5lbs for 20$ if you look hard enough. Some people say you ought to take miccellar right when you wake up with breakfast so your body has protein all day, but it's all about how much money you're willing to spend. If you want to spend less, forget about miccellar protein, it's not that important.

To gain weight to have to consume 500-1000 more calories than you normally do to maintain weight, so aim for that. I'm real small too, like 5'4 110 pounds.

Guys, Eat peanut butter. Its high in protien and its not disgusting, and it doesn't screw up your body. Eat a jar a week

Look at the label of a peanut butter jar -- it is NOT that high in protein -- 2 tablespoons with 8 grams of protein and 18 grams of fat -- that's not very good.

I play football also, and our team trainer gave me a new workout a few months ago that is very effective. It works with your core lifts (bench, squat, hex-squat, dead lift, etc.)
Start out with a weight you can do 4 sets of 8 reps, then add 20 lbs.
Let's say you end up doing 3 sets of 8 and one set of 6. The next time you lift, try to do that same weight but your goal should be 4 sets of 8. Once you reach the 4x8 goal, increase the weight by 10-20lbs. Repeat the process over again and you should begin to build muscle relatively fast.
After using this workout for about 2 months consistantly, my bench max. went from 185 to 245, and my squat went from 250 to 325.

It can't hurt you muscles at least I dont think so but to much can be hard your organs either your kidneys or your liver I forget but I was talking to my doctor about it and he said if you want more protein its healthier to just throw a couple eggs a day into a balanced diet.

Graze........eat every 2-3 hrs with each meal 2 tall glasses of water. Intake alot of protien mixed with carbs every meal.
and for the excess protien intake........ i doubt it, but if you intake too much you will get fat.

Depends on what type of person u are?
-If ur risky & curious, take creatine. It'll give u energy, give a lil help working out-blah,blah.
-If u want a more natural method, buy some whey protein(isopure) & power carb stuff, and work out like a hell dog. Eat protein-based foods, get iron, fiber, and vitamins, but not too much(make sure not too much). Simply put, work out, take protein, eat well, drink a lotta water, and a lil more water while ur at it.

Before our season started we worked out for three months straight, every other day as a team. I was 5'6'' 140 by the end of those 3 months (was around...115 maybe? 120?). Some of you small guys like me will be surprised that once you start working out, you gain weight, because you may have never worked out before, so theres tons of muscle to be built up. Didnt work out all season, and I'm around 125, or so again, so I lost alot of weight. Just hit the gym and don't eat like **** and you should be fine.
