It depends. If it's a team, yes. Just a once a month hobby, no.

Yeah, I think it's a hobby or just something to do for fun. Even on a team, it is just a recreational activity of something along those lines. When I think of sports, paintball just doesn't come up as one.

What, you don't routinely hunt your fellow man for sport???!!!
Remember, be a gentleman. Provide your quarry with running shoes if he hasn't brought his own and give him at least a half hour head start to hide himself. Under no circumstances should you attempt to hunt Van Damme or Ice T, because as their crappy movies show, they will get you back...with a vengeance.

paintball isnt a sport since there is no allowance for physical contact. thats whay golf, tennis and swimming all are activities. however, golf does provide enough danger when played improperly(for just about everyone) that is closer than the rest of them.

golf tennis and swimming are all sports and so is paintball. Sports don't need to involve physical contact. My rule is anything shown on ESPN is a sport. Except for spelling bees and poker.

That's a bad way of looking at it. That's like saying...if you play lacrosse on a team, it's a sport, but if you just play pick up with your friends, then lacrosse is not a sport.
Personally...I don't think it is.

if you think paintball is just a hobby then lacrosse is just a hobby. 2 teams, both involve running and strategy. the only thing different is goals .. and shooting people. and a lot of other things. but thats not the point =)

Yes. It's a recreational competition that involves teamwork and physical skill.
so's syncro, twister, croquet, the more exhuberant forms of monopoly and sex.
It all depends on your definition of a sport....just about everything fits under this definition...
-Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
-A particular form of this activity.
-An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
-An active pastime; recreation.
I personally feel that a sport should either be a race or something involving a ball...of course there are exceptions to every rule.
It depends. If it's a team, yes. Just a once a month hobby, no.
Not aimed at HdG in particular, but this arguement has no relevance. If I play football once a month with my friends that doesnt make football a hobby, it makes it a hobby of mine, its still a sport to others.

Ah...that reminds me of a short story we read in English... You know, big evil man who liked to hunt shipwrecked men on this little island that he owned because he got bored of all the other animals. :imparied:

Exactly my thought. I am not sure why espn is showing it, even because some people watch it, others would much rather watch a, well shall i say REAL sport. Same with chess, scrabble, and all those other dumb things on espn.

So is baseball not a sport? So most of the games in the Olympics are not sports? Show what backs that up.

I have two rules when I'm trying to figure out if something is a "sport."
1) You have to be in shape to do it (well).
2) You have to be able to play defense.
NASCAR- I never drove the car, but I don't see how you would have to be in shape to do it; not a sport.
Baseball- Most MLB players are in shape, but look at John Kruk, or Babe Ruth. You can play the game without being in shape; not a sport.
Track/Swimming- You can't play defense. It's just a series of events; in my opinion, it's not a sort. (Note- I was a swimmer for 8 years and a coach for 5.)
Paintball- I never played it so I don't really know, but if we are going to call it a sport, we might as well call war a sport too.

I disagree, I would define a sport as anything thats physical
1. increased heart rate
2. you break a sweat (not just cause its hot out)
3. it requires athletic ability
this would rule out things like:
hunting, fishing, boating, baseball ect. ect....

NASCAR- I never drove the car, but I don't see how you would have to be in shape to do it; not a sport.
Well....you have to fit through the driver's side window Dukes of Hazzard style, so you can't be huge...
