I'm thinking about starting a club/tournament team in my area as there really isn't one available. I was wondering what everyone's experience with club teams is and if a few questions can be answered:

What were the costs such as club fees, travel, equipment, etc
How much time was involved such as practices and meetings
How many tournaments/events were attended in one off season
Which tournaments were attended
How many coaches were involved
Did you have fun

Thanks!

The club fee for my club team, which include practices and gear (shorts, shirt, pinnie, bag, water bottle) is around 700...expensive but I assume most teams are around the same? Tournaments are separate and are quite pricey. The ones in the fall that are more local (IAS, Umass, Fallfest, one at UNH) varied from 65-165 I believe. The ones in the summer to NJ, NY, and MD are around 350+. The tournament costs also include lunch and water/gatorade. I believe there are around 6 different tournaments you can sign up for. IAS showcase, National Draw, All-Star Express, Charm City, Long Island Elite, and Xtreme Lax. We have practices about 3 times a month for 1.5-2 hrs but sometimes we'll go a month without practicing at all. We have one head coach who is in charge of all of the teams but there are additional staff members..one who joined during the winter and is always with us now, and a few others who are occasionally at practices and I assume they'll help coach the tournaments this summer. We also have team camps, which are basically just 2 or 3 days of practice but we stay overnight as a team together. My club team is a blast and I'm so happy to be on it. Hope that helps

Okay I am really pissed 'cause I had a huge post that took me legit like 15 minutes to post.

For now, just go to http://www.mndlax.com for a lot of info on how to schedule/run a team.

The fee for my time is 550 w/out travel and tourneys. We get a bag, stick, goggles uniform and gloves. We have about four tourneys. Practice on Wednesday and SUnday and about three coaches were/are involved.

My team's annual fee is $250, then we pay for tournaments we want to attend and travel fees, but we must attend at least 6 tournaments a year. We have practice 2-3 times a week and attend a tournament just about every other weekend in the summer and fall, as well as a few in the spring and winter. We only have 2 coaches because we are a small club (about 50 girls total). We also participate in a summer league run by our sponsors.

If you could, I'd like it if you would just IM me on AIM (thesumsum) 'cause I'm too lazy to type it all up here.

EDIT* If you can't I'll retype personal experiences. Just lemme know.

my club team's (supernova) annual fee is $450. that does not include tournament fees ($50-100 usually), hotels, etc. we practice 2-3 times a month and our practices are two hours. we usually do 4-6 tournaments in a season (summer & fall). some tournaments we go to/have been to include charm city, nat'l draw, all-star express, USTC tournaments, turkey shoot, woodson lax showcase, etc. most of the major ones plus a few smaller local ones. our team is coached by the GMU coaches & players. each year ('06, '07, etc) gets two or so GMU players who coach them and then amy & liz (GMU coaches) work with each of the 4 teams, spending most of their time with the older teams. and yes, i have fun with it. :)

I play for NBC, and our annual fee is $100. Plus, you can purchase team sweatshirts, sweatpants, and must purchase the jersey and shorts. Also, you must pay for the tournaments. Some of the tournaments we do are downingtown, turkeyshoot, a fall tourney at st. paul's, charmcity, allstar express, beachlax, and a couple of other local tourneys. We have practices in the summer around tournament times and do work outs to keep in shape too, and during the fall we have practice once or twice a week, in the winter we don't practice but are in an indoor league, and in the spring we practice twice a week. I hope that helps! Let us know if you want any ideas about team names, uniforms, practices, tourneys, etc! Good luck!

its 800 for me which doesnt include $100 for the uniform (pinne, shorts, sweatshirt, tank, ) the 800 includes all tourny fees except the $20 we give for all the food they have for us at our tent. the only other thing we have to pay for is travel expenses and hotel rooms

Club teams can varie depending on what you mean by the term "Club". Most club seasons start at the completion of the regular hs season. Those clubs will travel to key recruiting tournaments to give opportunities to be seen by college coaches. The other club is one that competes against other teams in your own area during the regular season. Those are much less costly than travel club. The main costs would be a simple uniform, referees, insurance(avoidable if everyone is a US lacrosse member), and buses for local transportation. Hope this helps
