I'm a small kid 5'3,110lbs so I lift 5 days a week. Everyday I shoot for a half hour and wallball 500 passes each hand. I run every other day. Next year I play varsity and have alot of competition so I am determined to start. I also want to get a scolarship to a good college. I was wondering how long you guys practice for and if any specific drills you do to get better.

how old are u?
u shouldnt be lifting weights until you grow because you'll tear your growth plates.

i agree, i'm only 14 and i dont lift weights cause i'm still growing. My uncles a doc and he told me not to lift for another year or so. But i still do it every once in a while. Just dont make it a habbit. what your doin sounds good otherwise. although heres what i do in case you were wondering.
I weigh only 115 and i'm 5ft 4
every day
*do 100 crunches
*100 push ups
*practice right overhand shots (half hour)
*left overhand shots (half hour)
*left side arm shots (half hour)
*right side arm shots (half hour)
*run, while running i sprint for a minute, jog for 30 secs, do this for around a half an hour
*wall ball for about an hour
*then just fool around doing tricks

That sounds awesome I'll try it tommorow and post how it goes. (BTW I'm 14 as well)
EDIT: Actually, I think I'll do about half of the shooting stuff; if you really do this, it seems like it would take forever, at least 4 hours.

i really do do this, and it takes me about 5 hours (with breaks). Its hard work but its worth it being able to go onto the field and just crush the other team.

Personally I think that you should spend less time on your side arm shots and more on your on the run instead. What position do you play?

Yea I agree. The shooting took forever, and I was doing it on a wall too.
But hey man, if it works for you, more power to ya.

Like three and a half hours to play wall ball, lift weights, run, and practice a little with my next door neighbor.

Do any you guys use any special techinques like filling a tennis ball with coins to make it heavier, something along those lines. I don't, I just wanna see what people do and if it works.

I shoot for about 1 hour every day doing a varitey of shots. I then ride my bike for about 50 min, and play wall ball (boyth hands) and mess around for about 40 min. I use the tennis ball filled with pennies and it does not work for shot improvement, but it strenghtens your forearms.

i dont really say im going to do 500 throws each day with both hands that makes lax more of a chore instead of fun i just have a goal for each day and i do it until i can do it well this way its not a chore and the improvement is more visible

Well, I go running with the football team every morning...whether it's working the agility ladder, running sprints, endurance, anything. Then I go to the weightroom and hit the weights. I'm only 14, but I'm ahead of most kids my age when it comes to growing.
Usually I'll hit the wall everyday and run suicides on my own for explosiveness...but since I'm in New York for the week, that's harder to do.

haha i stay in shape by BEING on the football team. our lacrosse team is just club so they dont wanna do anything on the offseason but for football we lift 3x a week for 2 1/2 hours each. we do core stuff (squats bench cleans etc) and then running, auxilaries (sp? which is stuff like the nautalus machines but we're too poor to afford them so we have cheaper stuff) and then a station that is all burnout type stuff (low weight high reps) and then we do some other calesthenics (sp?)

i heard if you do more than a hundrd wall ball exercises its doing more harm than good ebcause your muscles are being used a lot and they change so you dont do the same throwing techniqur as when you on the tenth throw as you are on the 200th throw, so i actually messes up throwing more, so when i play wall ball seriosly i do 65 then evrey one i drop i do 2 more.
every day this summer at 7:00 am we have ligting for an hour, mon and wed are upperbody and tues and thurs are lower body, we get fri, sat, sun off, then we do speen training, whcih i s usuualy ladders, stadiums, and then suicides or loooonng sprints. ten mon and thurs night we have team practice for all returning practice. during the day i will go outside and shoot for about an hour and practice a couple dodges, adn i try to hit my brother;s sticj while he runs arond.

im 15, but if u search on this thread and many good websites you will see that weightlifting the right way for ur age has no bad affect on u.
i lift 3 days a week for about an hour, and usually play catch for about an hour and a half. I shoot on the run for about an hour also( both hands, all overhand).
A sample school day looks like this
2:40 get home from school, lift at about 3, then mild over hand shots on the run from about 430-530. i then usually play a game of bball with my neighbors which works on my agility/stamina and is fun.then dinner at about 7, and usually just some stationary passes with both hands from 7:30-8:30ish Then before 10 i do hw, shower, and get all my stuff ready for school.
on a weekend i usually shoot early, and throw at night. Both are done at a somewhat high intensity, focusing on form. This way i dont get sick of it, i can do other things, get better, and do it at times when the sun isnt its hottest.
