i've made a pocket pounder out of a broken shaft and just drilled a hole in a ball and stuck it on... works well too

I've never used a pocket pounder, I just use hand/ball.

I hate to bring it up but a baseball bat works good. Just take and old baseball bat put sports tape around the top and pound away

lol, I'm a band geek, so I just went into the band room and went to our mallet closet, and took out the mismatched mallets, the ones who's significant other's have been broken by cruel drummers like me, and I took a bass drum mallet.

If you have two weeks to break them in, I wouldn't worry...I usually break my pockets in in a few days.
I use warm water, my hand and a ball most of the time. also, you can take a short stick, and repeatedly jam the buttend of the stick into the pocket. Works just like a pocket pounder.
