Step 1--string the stick so you have a pure release, but the ball is "held" (just a little bit) by the bottom string--when you dip your stick low. (Ball should stay in the same spot)
2--Cradle, and bring the stick low, and behind your body
3--Stick your TOP hand (elbow) out, while you gauge your hips and shoulders
4--When the hips and shoulders are helping you with your follow through, snap your wrist wherever you want the ball to go.

For advanced practice, use both hands, try it on one foot, on the run, etc...

if you have the money try a rock-it pocket. They are great for overhand/side arm/underhand shots. I have to warn you though. Once you go rock-it pocket, you never go back.

Don't shoot underhand, you'lle get chewed out. The only time you should shout underhand is when you catch a pass an inch above the ground and your already wound up to shoot. Shot overhand...

OK you obviously work there...

And yea shooting underhand isn't very fast but if you get good at it, it can turn into a dangerous, reliable shot. Few things are more awesome than when the goalie thinks you're underhanding low and you shoot an elevator.

Underhanding comes very natural to me since I play hockey. My motion goes just as if I were taking a slapshot. When shooting underhand make sure your arms are extendded or else it will go flying everywhere. Try practicing slap shots and incorporate it with your stick once you get used to it.

step 1- string a pita pocket
step 2- start ripping underhand shots.

Im not joking my underhand/sidearm shot is infinitely better with a pita than with regulae mesh.

As much as you should shoot overhand in games, you should practice all shots on your own time, including underhand. It is much easier with instruction, but I tell all my players to shoot from their heals, and follow through to point where they are shooting. You should start shooting on a wall, and it should almost be a light pass. The ball will bounce right back to you if you point at your target (in your box). Make sure you're standing straight up, not hunched, and work harder as time goes on. Then run and do the same and so on. Remember, shoot from your heal.
