What is the minimum length you can have your stick?
My short stick from cap to scoop is 37 inches

In 6 years (going on 7) I have never once been checked for stick length.... our goalie, however, last year during the CAC tourney, got hers checked and it was too short.... so it is a possibility you have to be prepared for

Rule I-A-2-a regarding crosse dimensions
"Overall length: .9m (35 1/2") minimum; 1.1m (43 1/4") maximum." The stick is measured from the tip of the scoop to the bottom of the endcap. Don't push it though. Is it really worth getting a penalty because your stick is 1/8" too long or short? Is 1/8" in shaft length really going to make a difference in your game?

You might not expect an umpire to check for length, but if she does, it's perfectly legit call. The opposing team can always request a stick check on you too. That would really suck if you just scored a goal, opposing team requests stick check on you, and umpire finds your stick fraction of an inch too long or short. As a result, your goal would be disallowed, your stick would be removed from the game, and you would incur a minor foul.

GeorgiaMiddie, this is the women's forum, so the thread starter was not asking what the rule is in the men's game.

the US lacrosse rules different than the IWFLA?

I was always under the impression that it was 40" mininum

our refs around here are pretty consistant about checking for stick length, it's the same routine for all of them...dropp ball in pocket, roll ball, take stick, measure stick against body while checking the pinch, hand stick back, check for mouthguard...but then there are only about 12 refs in the province, and all were trained by the same person

btw....opposing coaches can request stick check at anytime, so can the opposing goalie (usually, that's the one you have to worry about)....i suppose taller players might have more trouble getting away with it just because a stick woudl look shorter in their hands

(adds one to the list of "why being short isn't such a bad thing" list)

For girl's lacrosse, the stick length has to be 35 1/2 inches to 43 1/4 inches (like RYU mentioned earlier). I'm sure, I just got copied it out of the 2004 Women's Lacrosse Rules. This only pretains to girl's lacrosse, there's a different length reqirement for guys.

The reason with a short lacrosse stick is that they throw very far. In the summer league, I let my friend use my 35 1/2 inch short lacrosse stick, she threw the ball about 1/2 way down the field. My coach always told me to cut my stick so that it's my arm length, so in a way it's not fair for people with shorter arms. Also, 35 1/2 inches is really short for a stick so I guess it makes sense. I'm going to not cut my new stick (once I get it), since it does give advantages during a game.
