I always played with the sticks as they came and never cut them, but how short can your stick actually be? From the tip of the head to the end of the cap, how short can your stick be?:wtf

Make sure you understand that that is an NCAA rulebook and is different than what is used for NFHS. But stick lengths are not one of the differences.

yeah, i know its different, but most of the rules are the same, so i use it for most of the basic things, like stick lengths, field measurements, etc.

what do you gane from having a short pole be 38 inches or 45 inches
why would you ever want to cut down your shaft

shorter stick = less to wood to hit

yeah but ur decreasing ur leverage on it too, plus on short stick wont make so much of a difference... people go for the gloves its too easy to miss the washing

how much of a variation is there in the length of heads?

not much. Like 10-11in I think

shorter stick = tighter control, too
but i think the shorter it is the less velocity you'll get on the shots, but idk.

yes, but dont give in to 40 in. right away, accuracy and power is lost when shorter.....hence why box laxers keep em 42 or 41,
but....now box rulz changed and allow 40, but still i switched to 40, and recently went bazck, great handling but lost some mustard on shots, so, gave her back to 41

Real quick; Question for the lax history buffs: This person, is the reason why there are now required lengths of shafts and he is probably the greatest player. Who is he?
Stick measurements:
A/M: 40"-42"
D: 52"-72"
G: 40"-72", but most do not exceed 62"
Circumference: 3 1/2"
For short sticks, be careful not to cut too much off of your shafts. Because the proper way to conduct a stick, is to measure from the top head to the end of the shaft on the back side of the stck. That is important to remember, b/c measuring on the front side and if you have an offset head, you will gain about 1/8" to 1/4" from the tape being bent improperly to measure the stick. So be sure to always measure from the back side of the stick.
It is just best not to cut it to close, an extra 1/4" is not going to make a difference on the field, but it might if you get a 3 min NR penalty. Best advice, before every game have your stick checked by the official.
The 3 1/2" cir. rule is not often applied, but some shafts are bigger. E.g. a wooden D-shaft from chilly stix measures 3 3/4" cir. That is illegal, and would result in a 3 min NR penalty. This is one of the few companies that makes wood shafts. They are illegal for college and HS play.
They may have corrected the problem, but before you order a shaft from them, check with your local HS rules, and call them to see if they have corrected the problem.

back in the days before Ti and other precious metals being used to make shafts, almost all short sticks came at 42 inches. many people didnt even bother to cut the 2" off the end, attackmen mostly. now that that extra 2" costs $11, they all come at 40
here endeth todays half baked history lesson
