Soccer cleats should be fine to start with. I used soccer cleats through college and like how light weight they were. DO NOT use running shoes on grass, especially if it is not well kept, or you'll lose your footing often.

Plenty of kids on the start-up team I'm coaching have soccer cleats. They played all season with them and it wasn't really an issue. I would think you could use them without a problem as long as the field conditions match the spikes (i.e., if you've got long spikes and the field's as hard as concrete don't wear them).

Exactly. You may, and i would recomend, using running shoes on turf though.

I would actually just go out and buy some football cleats. In a fast sport like lacrosse, wearing soccer cleats is a rolled ankle waiting to happen. I've certainly rolled my ankle more than a few times when wearing low- cut shoes, but that's just me. It's ultimately up to you.

thanks

i was thinking of wearing my soccer cleats for the first few tryouts and see if I make the team, but getting my sister (who's a sports trainer) to tape my ankles up so they dont roll.

if i make the team i'll get some football cleats
