What’s the best way to clean your pads (shoulders, elbows, gloves)? I don’t wear a shirt under them pretty often and they’ve taken on a pretty bad smell from all the sweat. I’ve heard washing machine works all right, but I’m afraid that it might do some damage, especially to the gloves. Any suggestions?

you could just frebreze the hell outa em... either that or just handwash them, washing machine and dryer can do a number on them but get a bucket and soap and handwash them and that wont hurt em

Febreeze doesn't work, makes em smell like a sh*tty mix between sweat and febreeze. I've heard lysol is good. And for the gloves, you can always get glove dogs at lax.com

If your not allergic to strong odor, put some axe or tag on it or something in that sort and put it out side. Should smell so fresh and so clean.

axe and tag will just make it smell even worse, i've tried it, but frebreze takes out any odor

NOOOOO. this one kid on our team had a can of axe explode in his lacrosse locker and when we would scrimmage i would be like "jesus christ who puts on that much cologne?" it was like that for 3 weeks and then somebody finally told me what happened. its so annoying.

Let it dry out, then spray whatever you think smells good in there. Spray more than you think you should and then zip the bag up, that way it will sort of keep the scent in there.

unless your pads have alot of plastic on them, just throw em in the wash.. ive been doing it for a few years and nothing bad has ever happened to them

You could do that but remember not to throw gloves in the drier it messes them up.

I have lived with my son's smelly LAX equipment, including the shoes. In Illinois, Lacrosse America (WWW.LacrosseAmerica.com) offers the "esporta" cleaning system, which was developed to clean hockey and football equipment. After the HS season, we had the equipment cleaned and it was like new, including the gloves and shoes, which had endured a lot. A lot of you guys are from outside IL, but check out the website and click on the clean your gear icon. Perhaps you can find a place in your area that offers the same cleaning system.

If you put your gloves in the dryer, you have poor judgement, or you lack basic logic. I just don't see a solid line of reasoning with that.

It makes sense. Take wet clothes, put them in dryer. Turn dryer on, wait. Take clothes out of dryer, they are dry. Same thing with gloves although it's not the bed idea for gloves.

Just put it in the washing machine, then dry it on cool air, it works good, put dryer sheets in each glove and like 10 in the dryer it helps hellas

Theres a place in Marlborough Mass called Metrowest Cleangear. They've got a website too. www.metrowestcleangear.com Its like the place listed earlier that is in Chicago IL. I brought my stuff there and yeah, it comes out like new. No stink and its clean too.

Ive found washing them really works but dont wash your gloves they become hard and you have to break them in.

^^Machine washing leather gloves cannot be a good idea.

My thoughts are just to hang-dry after use, febreeze now and then, and just deal with the stink. Take 'em to an "equipment-fresh" cleaning service if you must, but...it'll totally stink again after the first few uses, so it's sort of a waste of money.

Other non-leather stuff - hang dry after use, febreeze now and then, machine wash on cold with very little detergent and hang dry once or twice per season

just put the pads in the shower and scrub them with a bar of soap. Works great

No, they came out great. Got all the grimy stuff off and the leather was fine. Worked on my cleats too. The best was the helmet tho. Like new!

Mine smelled fine for about 3 months after getting them cleaned. Of course, I try to take good care by not keeping it all crammed in my bag when it is still wet. And at this place, they lock the equipment down inside the machine so it doesn't get beaten up. Really cool actually. Definitely not a waste of money.
