Alright so I applied for jobs at a bunch of places. It has been a couple of weeks and none of them has called me back. I was told I should call them to "initiate the dialogue" or whatever, but I'm not really sure what to say. Any help? (background info I'm 16 and it's basically no skills jobs like a cashier at CVS, Staples, etc...)

You could have asked it in that thread.
Just call them, and ask. They wont be offended. Just say like I applyed a couple weeks back, I havent heard anything from you, I was just wondering if you forgot about me.

Call back, explain that you enquired about employment, and ask if there are any openings. If they have nothing for you, go to a new set of stores etc. and apply and keep trying. You have to really pound the pavement to get your name out their for employers.

Not really considering that hes asking what to do after interviews w/ no call backs.

I must not have been clear in my first post I haven't been interviewed yet, just filled out applications.

You DO need to take the initiative, employers like that. Go in in person if you can, and don't look like a slob.

i have the exact same problem, however the only diff is that i'm 15, not 16. Call and ask for the manager, and if their not there ask for the times/days they will. When u get ahold of the manager, say " hello, I filled out a job application a few weeks ago and was wondering if you had considered me yet" Be sure to SPEAK SLOW, AND CLEAR and with confidence. before you ahng up, throw in a little saying to seal the deal. Something along the lines of "thank you for your time" is great. Adults love politeness, and don't want a guy with no manners working for them.
i know sometimes talking to adults is hard, so there is an exact quote for u to use if u have nothing else.
the thing with applying for a part time job is that they may only call u if they need u. It wud be nice if after 4 days they called back saying sorry theres no opening, or you dont fit our requirements, but they dont.
i know it feels awkard, but its how life is. Considering its just a job, you shouldn't be too heart broken if they deny u. Sometimes the application doesnt always reach where it needs to be; ive heard of a few cases where that happened. Whats the worst that could happen, they dont give u the job? Well thats where u r now, so it can only get better.
FYI- when filling out an application/ interview, dress nice. It may not be u, it may not be "right" in the sense of judgeing u for appearance, but its life, so just do it.
Words of encouragement- i just called after writing this post, and the manager said that she honestly hasnt looked over an applications the past 2 weeks because they are going through inventory, and would call me back on Monday.

As my mom would say, "the squeaky wheel gets the oil". So make sure they know who you are, and that you are interested (besides just filling out an app.) Go back and talk to the manager in person.

Tell them you will rob the place if they dont give u a job and if they dont pay you enough you will steal from the register.
