Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone is intending on playing or watching the Aisa-Pacific tourny in Adelaide, June this year?

Should be a sweet tournament with 2 aus under 19 teams, an under 23 team, and teams from western usa, east usa, west canada, korea, 2 japanese teams, new zealand! and yeah...anyone?

no, its all ages, australia is simply entering 3 development squads 2 of them under 19 age, one of them under 23 age, aiming at promoting young talent in front of the next senior world games coaches...no idea about china

I sent an email out to one of the organizers looking for more info and she told me that its aimed at university aged players. Myself and alot of others from western canada are interested but are in the 23-27 range so we dont know if we are welcome or not. I was also told that the Western Canada people backed out so its up to me and others to get a team from here to go. It sounds like it could be a great time though! If u could give me more info then that would be awesome..

ok, here is the details from www.lacrosseaustralia.org

Asia Pacific Tournament
3 to 10 July 2004, Adelaide

Hello to all you Lacrosse people out there in the Asia Pacific Region.

I have been overseas for a month, spending 2 weeks in Japan and 2 weeks in China. What an unbelievable holiday it was! Now I am over the journey and have almost caught up with lacrosse activities and everything else I would have been doing if I had been here, I can finally get the third Bulletin out.

It is possible that we will have 12 teams in the Tournament:

3 Australia (2 Under 19 &1 U23)
2 West Coast U.S.A.
1 East Coast U.S.A. (not eligible for finals)
1 Hong Kong
1 West Coast Canada
1 Japan U21
1 Japan Over 21
1 New Zealand
1 Team Wookie (combined Western Aust. and New Zealand)

Some teams have made initial enquiries but haven’t gone any further. Would all teams please get back to me so I know if I have the list correct? If you are not listed but wish to attend we can still accept Registrations.

Obviously there will be at least two Divisions and if any more teams enter we may have to make it three Divisions. Wouldn’t that be great?

Don’t forget you are asked to bring a Referee with the team otherwise you will pay a fee of $500, which will be used to bring Referees from interstate.

Not many of the teams have paid their deposit of $500, which will secure the accommodation. I urge you to send that to Bunnik Travel as soon as possible. If you miss out on the Village and stay somewhere further away you will have the extra cost of hiring a bus to get to the playing venue, whereas the Village is walking distance away. If any teams are not yet certain of their commitment please let me know. I don’t know how much longer we can hold your accommodation at the Village without payment from your team and if I don’t have any more contact from you it will make it difficult to justify.

May I remind you that any teams travelling overseas must notify their National bodies. Another thing, you will need to make sure that you take out Travel Insurance that covers sport and maybe even specifically lacrosse.

Some teams are thinking of bringing a women’s team with them. That will be great and we will certainly organise some matches for them. They won’t be part of the A.P. Tournament, but can be involved with social activities. If you want them to stay at the Village there is still room to book them in, but it will be their own responsibility to look after the behaviour side of things.

We have finished our season in Australia and looking forward to a break over the Christmas / New Year. This is the long summer holidays for our schools and a lot of people go away as a family at this time. I am past that stage but will have grandchildren coming to stay with me. My lacrosse activities may slow down but won’t stop, so you can still contact me. The Lacrosse S.A. office will be shut for over five weeks so could you please contact me direct from now on at my email address alcsecretary@picknowl.com.au

One item you might need a reminder on is that there will be a meeting in Adelaide during the week of the Tournament with a view to forming an Asian Lacrosse Union. Any recommendation made at that time will be discussed at the I.L.F. Meeting in Prague later in July.

May I take this opportunity of wishing you all the best
for the Festive season and a Happy New Year.

My situation is sorta odd, i am living and am from vancouver island, off of mainland western Canada. However I am moving to China in a few weeks and will be there for awhile, so I could have a few options on what team i played for i decided to go. Though from the email i got, the people from Canada who were interested have backed out, so if my area is to be represented its up to me and a few friends to figure it out.

i think the USA has much higher standards. you're gonna be competing against a lot of LI and MD kids. it's quite possible that you won't make the team. but go here: http://www.wala.com.au/PDFword/2004/AsiaPacificLacrosseTournament.pdf

Asia Pacific Tournament
3rd to 10th July 2004.

Adelaide

Bulletin # 4

A Happy New Year to you all.
I hope you had a good festive season and are ready for a busy year.
Time is marching rapidly to our event and you should be well on track with your arrangements.

Accommodation.
I know most of you have paid your $500 deposit. Have you also stipulated which accommodation option you want? With or without meals? Villas, Holiday Units or Cabin Vans. I am hoping you have been communicating with Bunnik Travel on this. They can keep me informed.

Uniforms.
Some teams have given me that information so I will list them for your benefit.

Australia U19 Green Green with Gold and Navy
Australia U19 Gold Gold with Green and Navy
Australia U23 Navy with Gold and Green
Hong Kong Blue and White
Team Wookie Orange with Brown and White
New Zealand Black and White
Japan U21 Colours Unknown
Team Zag U.S.A. Colours Unknown
West Lacrosse U.S.A. Colours Unknown
West Coast U.S.A. Colours Unknown.
Canada ? Colours Unknown

Don’t forget you will need a spare uniform as a Blood Uniform.

If all teams have distinctive coloured uniforms there will not be a requirement for a second set as there is for World Series. If a team has a second strip already that’s O.K., but if you are getting new uniforms it will save money if you don’t have to get a second set. There are plenty of washing machines and dryers at the Village so getting them washed after a game is not a problem.
So, it is important to not have the same colours. It is important that you check with me before deciding on your uniforms. Most teams are not National teams so this can be an opportunity to do something creative! Please let me know by the end of January.

The two West U.S.A. teams probably need more distinctive names, so can you also work on that. Come on Dan and Steve, be daring!!! Think of something interesting.

Can you all check that I have the above information correct and that the names and colours of the teams are as listed. A response is required by the 31st January.

If the team comes from Canada it will mean we have 11 teams. That’s great!!
We just need one more team to even it up. That would be a perfect number to make two divisions.

Contact details.

3 Australian teams Noel Speck nspeck@campion.com.au
Hong Kong Albert Lai Ho Yin hylai@hklax.org
Team Wookie Glenn Morley glenn.morley@jsawa.org.au
New Zealand Mark Freemon mark@lacrosse.co.nz
Japan U21 Yasuhiko Hayakawa yasjla@ac.mbn.or.jp
Team Zag Jeremy Meccage jmeccage@zagsports.com
West Lacrosse U.S.A. Steve Dini stephendini@msn.com
West Coast U.S.A. Dan Stern usalax98@yahoo.com
Canada Aaron Vanderhorst eradicator@hotmail.com

Referees.
Don’t forget you need to bring a referee with the team or pay a fee of AUS $500
If you already have a referee could you please give me the name and email address so I can pass it on to the Referee in Chief Peter Noble, as he is anxious to make contact.

Photos.
Team photos are required by the 3rd June.
This is not a World Series so we are not doing an elaborate programme and don’t intend having individual photos and playing history etc., just a team photo with the list of names and playing numbers.

Update by Teams
Could you all please give me an update on where you are up to with the team at this stage? Such things as whether you have your 23 players, how many coaches and other staff will be coming, are the uniforms ready, whether you have a referee and any other information you would like to send.

Any Questions?
Also, if you have any queries I will be happy to answer and possibly circulate that information.
