Was anyone there to see it firsthand/play in it?
Rumor has it they had the girls playing international rules with larger creases and hard boundaries. Wonder if anyone has some input on how it went.

I was there and it was awesome! I'm so glad our team got in. We did play international rules (even when not against international teams). Personally, I liked having the hard boundries. I think that they make for a cleaner game.

yeah i was there! it was fun. we won all of our games except one. we played the japan national U-21 team. it was awesome. they were fast and moved the ball well but we still beat them 7-3. it was funny bc they were all screaming in japanese and it was crazy.
i loved the hard boundaries.

did the hard boundaries function like they do in the men's game? Turnover in all instances, and closest to endline gets possesion on a shot or was it modified differently?

Like the men's game. Always a turnover except on shots when whoever is closest recieves possesion. I liked it a lot

I personally didn't like the hard boundaries. Only because the ref's were confused on the rule so they continually screwed it up.

How so, what parts did they screw up?

Who's ball it was after a shot but miss.

i.e. Who's ball it was after a shot but miss. How can that be? Possesion on shots that go past the goal and over the endline are treated exactly the same as they are in the current soft boundary rule.
If the shot ricocheted off something like the goal pipes and went out of bounds over a sideline, that may have been cause for some confusion, but I doubt you saw very many of those.

Yea, i agree with RYU. I didn't have any issue with the way the refs were calling possesion after shots. Overall I thought that the refs did well with the hard boundries.

The women's game with international rules is so much better and faster...
I like the way it even gets more physical...I have caught some team canada stuff on tv and what not it was decent to watch but the NCAA USA women's stuff is just so boring

Yeh i played in the english team, i personally love playing with hard boundries as we do that here, but I did find that many of the refs were getting a bit confused with the calls, especially on shots, compared to our refs at home anyway but I suppose that is to be expected. Another thing was that EVERYTHING that our defence were doing in the crease was being pulled up, the game is just so oversensitive in america compared to england, and it messed up our game, but whatever we did quite well anyway. I had an amazing time there though and loved being able to watch the world cup too, it was an unforgettable experience!!

I played in the Australian side 'Team Koala' over in the Cup of Nations. I personally think that hard boundries are way better than playing soft. However I am used to playing with hard boundries so I am a bit biased. But a couple of games we played in before the Cup of Nations, we played with soft boundries and they seem to reward scrappy stick work, like when the ball goes out but you still get to keep possession.
I had an awesome time over there though and was sad to go home. All the girls playing were great and our whole team had a blast!

my bestfriend played in the cup of nations. she played colorado, austrailia, and i can't rem the other teams. but she said it was ridiculous because all the girls they played were like in their late 20's. and we're only 16. When she playd the austrailian team, one of the girls was 27. haha!

All of you youn'uns that love the hard boundary rule should speak up to your coaches because many of the womens "old guard" coaches have fought them for some time.
The boys have been doing it forever, it should not be that hard to figure out. It isnt Algebra.
Change can make the game even MORE appealing to the unindoctrinated.

ah! i hate the hard boundary! i think it makes the game go a lot smoother w/o boundaries (thats if the ball doenst fly wayy too far out). I think the no boundary makes it more competitive b/c if the girls no that even if the balls go out out of the lines, they wont really stop the game, so they still race. butt, if there were to be boundaries, i know so called "players" who would give up if they knew they wouldn't make it in time to the boundary. plus, there is SORT OF a boundary line, i mean ... it differs with every reff, but they dont just let you play into the stands. keep it as it is!! it's already too technical, esp. with the new "follow through" rule they put into action this past year. :whyme:
