Since this is the summer, this may seem kind of weird, but I was wondering if any of you have played a lacrosse game in extreame conditions. Weather, while being injured, etc.

I'm putting this as a new post, because I don't want the thread description to go on forever and I'm still getting used to this site.
My team played our last game on a nice 80 degree day that turned into a 50 degree day with freezing rain. It was rediculous, girls were slipping all over the place and when the game was over (we won) most girls ran off the field to get sweats because none of us could feel our arms or legs.
Injury, I've never played with a real injury. I've hurt my ankle and kept playing before (think I rolled it, just stepped wrong and it cracked really loudly and I was out for a minute to get ice, but I don't really know what happened. I just went back in.), and once I got hit in the face with a stick and was kinda out of it for a bit, but that's nothing compared to my friend who went to Vail this year. She got the butt of a stick wedged between her ribs and they started to seperate!!! Just curious to hear some other crazy stories.

played during the hurricanes last year (except charley, because it was practically a direct hit from a cat. 4) ....and i threw around yesturday (sat.) while dennis was blowing past us (ft. myers, fl)....we get rain everyday...so summer lax is always muddy and wet...i like it though because it really cools us down

That's insaine! Just a bit of rain would be nice but that's crazy that you played during hurricaines. Our school was so anal, we went in at the sight of lightning or even when it was just thunder and started to rain a little too hard for their liking. It kinda sucked.

Played in blizzards (at least 2 I can remember), 1 double-header in a t-storm.
never played with/or through injuries becuase I'd rather not jeopardize future playing, although one would argue playing a t-storm similar, the refs did not stop play.

I live in FL so I don't know about blizzards but I just went to a camp in Delaware and we played during a tropical storm... I felt right at home, except alot more colder

Once you get used to the cold, any cold weather game isn't so bad, just remember to break out the orange balls. At the time of my first blizzard game my team had almost all white gear (no custom helmets, white jersies that were too big for everyone, etc..) we were just a bunch of floating numbers and gloves until the snow let up (not the wind of course).

just extreme texas heat
they usually cancel games in bad rain... i do remember practicing on our field that had like an inch of water while it was pouring. ground balls had never been so difficult

2 seasons ago we played a game with terential (sp?) downpours. It was also around 35 degrees with extreme gusts so that doesn't help. Was the last game of the season so we had to play it.
This past season we had a scrimage in the snow with some team NH. Kearsage or something like that. That game was pretty fun. We had to use the girls yellow balls because it was impossible to see a reg white ball. We also had a game where it was around 95 out. That's not too hot for some of you down south but up here in MA when you're used to snow..its pretty hot.

Any recomendations for preserving gear, i.e. mesh and gloves, after such conditions... especially rain? how bad can weather effect equipment?

yea, no kidding. Especially for us Chicago kids, that's ungodly hot. We never played games that hot during the season, but now that it's summer training, we're out there some days where you can see the heat and it's in the 90s and HUMID. It SUCKS. 35 is rough, but at least you can pile on the under armour and stuff, but if you're not ready for it and it comes out of nowhere, it really sucks, specially if you're a girl and you don't have gloves, holding on to your stick HURTS. Moral of that story is always have cold weather and warm weather gear in the bag. Here's a ?, which is worse? Extreame heat or extreame cold?? I think heat is worse because you can only take off so many layers.
As for the snow storms, that's really funny. Check out this picture if you like playin lacrosse in the snow:
http://www.msu.lax.net/pictures/UM/UM-Images/18.jpg the MSU v. U of M game was played in the snow, so there's more where that came from on the site, this one just looked the best.

I prefer heat, prob just because im from FL, I know what you mean but there is also an extent to how much you can put on, I also suppose that Extreme cold could be more fun... I wish it snowed here. lol

lol think about playin in a hurrican and you give a hard shot but then a huge 80mph gust of wind comes from the side and makes the ball do a massive curve and then on the plus side everyone would have been blown off the field.

hahhahaha, i could imagine sombody throwing the ball, and having it come right back in hit them in the face. hahahaha

Xtreme lax, dont let your stick sit after a wet game....try to rub your hands over the pocket to dry it out....also, throw with it the next day..do not let it sit!....as far as gear....if youre into washing it and everything...ok, but ill be the smelly kid that will make you think twice when you run in on me with the ball (that manly smell just works out for d-fense).....dry your gloves.....the palms dont need to get crusty

weather wise- pregrame was clear skys and pretty cool ,and then in the middle of the 1st quater the temp dropped big time and there was freezing rain for the rest of the game.
injury wise- played most of a game with a partially torn ligement in my knee. that probably wasnt the smartest idea i've had.

i played a football game in 8th grade when it was like 95 and i lost 8 pounds of sweat. same situation in a lax game this summer, i lost 6 pounds and i was at the lowest body weight that i had been at since 7th grade. we had a practice this year in about 3 inches of snow (field turf is amazing stuff, we actually got decent traction).
this year i played with a sprained shoulder and a really bad thigh bruise that was one of those annoying things that you think shouldnt be hurting you but in reality youre only like 80% at best.

One of our games was played in the rain. It was cold when you werent moving, the only way to keep warm was by runnning around. It was bad weather conditions but I don't think it qualifies as "extreme".

on our field last year towards the end of the season the grass wore out and it turned into sand, we played in like torrential downpour, and the sand all turned into mud, and ground balls were like goin under the mud, it was like soccer out there casue no one could get it with their sticks, also i played wiht a contusion in my right 3 ribs.

Played my last game in a heat index of 108. Later in the summer I broke my thumb in the beginning of a game and played the rest of it.

Reffed the A&M tourney last year and its was extremely wet and cold. We lost several balls in the crease the mud was so deep. The mud would cake up on your shoes and before you knew it you'd have several inches built up. Had one kid get his foot stick and popped his knee pretty bad (luckily not in my game though).

Yea those last games on sunday were pretty bad. It was cold and raining extremely hard. It sucked I got pushed into a puddle and couldnt get the sand out of my mouthpiece for a couple weeks.
