I am almost 6 foot tall, 171 pounds and I lift constantly. I just got done playing my first year of lacrosse as a defensive man on my high school team. I am very aggressive, but I do not understand the defensive plays. I would like to go to mid or attack because I can shoot, throw and run but I also dont want to kill the guy who hits me the wrong way. What should I do?

So play midfield, best of both worlds.

Uh, that was the stupidest reason I've ever heard...I'm a middie and I'd have no problem letting a d-guy into the works.
I vote Middie. You do get the best of both worlds, and I find that middies usually get to take and recieve more big body checks than defenseman who sit there and poke people all day long.

"Killing people" is an uncommon gift that d-men posess at certain times. The main purpose of defense in lacrosse is to stick tight, rotate, and protect the goal so when a shot goes off they can catch it from the goalie and get it to their attackmen upfield. D-men can check, but that is only so they can clear it. Most d-men if you watch mll or college stick very tight and let the attack pass and fire so the goalie can get it to them so they can clear it.

D all the way baby.....goalies actually oculd use an attitude like that, but ud have ot be more specific like reflexes, thigns u like/dislike about psorts ect...but heigth helps alot w/ D, & obviously being agressive does too

well there's a lot of missing info to make a really informed decision, but with the data supplied:
close defense
attack is out till your stick skills improve, if you can run all day, middy might be a good choice as well as LSM.
since you have only been at it a year, you could really do anything you want. talk to your coach (now, dont wait till spring) ask him what position other than defense you could play, then ask him what you need to practice to play that postion.
for exmple, if you really want to play attack, you should go spend AT LEAST one hour EVERY DAY (7 days a week) playing wall ball. that's the only way you will develop the stick skills to play attack
also, get your coach to explain the stuff you dont understand.
I LOVE playing close defense, but if i was a freshman in HS today, i'd be a goalie in a heart beat, but you need to have the right temperment to play goalie, and you didnt say anything about that

very similar to my size 6'1 175 lb. If you can run you should definately be playing middie. And if your aggressive learn how to take faces. To me thats the most fun anyone can have on a lacrosse field.

the obvious choice would be goalie ..... haha just messin. its not are choice , it doesnt matter what size you are. you can play any position you want , it all matters what you want to do.

i vote for LSM... you already have played defense so why not just move up to midfeild with a long stick?
