Hi...
my name is Jacob, and i have a friend who wants to start playing girls lacrosse. she wants a stick that she can start playing with. Since i dont know anything about girls lax, i was wondering how different the girls sticks are from the guys sticks. Also, what should i suggest for her to get started with (brand, model, etc.)
Thanks for your help

If she is playing high school she will also be wearing goggles this year. You can get a mid-range stick for about $45.00. The DeBeer Apex is coming in around $79.99 with a wide range of colors.

Look at www.sportsherway.com They also have a 888 number.

I'd go with the Brine Xcel as a beginner stick. It is a quality stick and is not super expensive so if she decides she doesn't like lacrosse (which I doubt she will) her investment wouldn't be that great.

Please don't let her get a top of the line stick!! that irritates me more than anything else. I know a girl who's daddy bought her a Tenacity, Surge and Impulse all in one go AND she had only been playing for 3 months at a school which forces their beginners to start with wooden!

Ooh. there's a thought. Check out the woodies. I know they're a bit old school but they seriously help you to hone your skills as a beginner, it does WONDERS in the long run.

BUT, for placcy... do agree with the Xcel , or even a non-offset head? like an STX echo or checkmate??

Because as London mentioned, woodies help develop very good stick skills. Its for a reason.

Now, back on topic, Jjay, there are already some posts on this so search around the women's forum. I actually did quite an extensive one. In fact I'll find the link to it for you. Make it even easier.

For a quick one though, I'd reccomend the Brine Xcel, DeBeer Response, STX Comet, Warrior Diva, or if she really wants to pay low look at the STX Echo. As Madzebra said, I really reccomend for her to look at http://www.sportsherway.com

In fact, encourage her to sign up here and become a member! We'd love to have her. She can narrow her choices down then ask us what we reccomend. Hope to hear from you soon bout that...

Sorry I cant find the thread...weird. I even searched under different titles too. But what we've all said is fine enough for choices.

thanks for all your help...
while she is waiting to get her stick, can i just flatten the pocket on a mens stick?

yea that's fine, just take a trad pocket, and pull all 4 leathers straight down, it doesn't have to be perfect, and you don't wanna go through all that time stringing it again. just tape the leathers down.

For years, Bill Tierney, Princeton's men's coach, forbid his players from using offset sticks because he felt that their throwing and catching went to hell using the offset. So it's not that suprising for a coach to demand all wood, or anything else. Draw your own conclusion on whether that's a wise move or not though.
