i've had the same $40 stick for five years now and i think it's time to upgrade a bit, but i'm kind of out of date on new technology advancements and whatnot. i'm trying to do some research to decide on a stick to buy. some terms i've come across are "dropped rail" and "offset head." what exactly do these terms mean? what are advantages and disadvantages? how exactly do these design features effect ball handling? also, what are some opinions on rubber sidewalls?
Welcome to the board. You have some legitimate FAQ's, and TLF has a forum search engine that puts a wealth of info at your fingertips. Like any search engine, you just need to choose your key words carefully. Here are a few suggestions.
"Dropped rail" is just a term that means the head has a low sidewall and will give you a deep pocket. Don't worry about looking it up.
Offset vs straight (aka onset) - enter "offset onset" in your search. The threads about mlax heads are still relevant to your question. Things like offset, pinch, and whip are the same in wlax heads, just not permitted to as great a degree as in mlax.
Rubber sidewalls - look up "surge" and "tenacity" in separate searches.
Everything boils down to personal preference. Play w/ what makes you play your best, even if it's a 20 yr old woodie. You'll hear time & again, 'it's the wizard, not the wand.'
