So a few days ago I turn on firefox, and all my bookmarks are completely cleaned out. I have no idea how. I assume this is a problem with profiles.

I have had this problem several times before and every time I have had to start my bookmarks all over again, it sucks. This time I tried the start - run - firefox.exe -profilemanager thing in the help section of their website, but it didn't work, there was no alternative profile. So I'm asking you guys to help me out.

How do I get my bookmarks back? How can I merge profiles?

i have no idea. This has happened to me too, and i cannot, for the life of me, find an outside folder or SOMETHING that stores all your bookmarks.

I'm really pissed, I took a break from the computer for a few days and now I come back and CANNOT do a thing without my contacts/bookmarks.

Same thing has happened to me few months ago. All those treasured bookmarks - gone. My suggestion is to just start over. Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.

Do you have a copy in Internet explorer? IF so copy over the adresses to your Firefox addessbar and pressenter. then press add to bookmarks. This ways kinda tedious but it should take you no more than 20 min. if you have approximately the sme ammount of bookmarks I had.

I see noone else actuallyposted an answer.(I feel so smart this has made my day)

No, I moved exclusively to Firefox. But I am now looking for another browser, I cannot stand the constant problems Firefox has given me in the <1 year that I have had it.

the other day i guess i wanst paying attention or something. and i guess i clicked something..im not really sure. anyway. it asked me to pick a profile or create a new one. and it only had a default so i clicked that. and it like wouldnt let me. and then it sort of had another one ready to be named "default user" so i clicked ok like twice and it made a new "profile" i guess.
and well where did the other one go
i didnt even know firefox had profiles?
i have like 50 million websites bookmarked.
im pretty pisssed.
and no one knows how to find them again?

Ok heres the deal... go to ALT + CTRL+DELETE

then go to PROCESSES, and Manualy END firefox.exe.... the problem is that you havent exited out of firefox so you cant get back into your profile.

And this is 100% the truth, i've had to do it a few times.

that's how you do it
you have to close every instance of firefox before you can change profiles..if you created a new profile and lost everything else, try doing what Mavido said, then go to Start > Run > firefox.exe -profilemanager..the profile manager thing should pop up again..if firefox just opens again, you didn't close all instances of firefox in the processes menu..once you have the profile manager window open, double click the default profile, everything should be back to normal..mine did this just 2 days ago and it's all better now :)

make sure there's no firefox.exe in your processes..then open firefox, and go to file, exit, firefox should close..now try the start > run etc...

About an hour ago I clicked on firefox and a profile manager came up. I clicked on one I thought was mine but I was wrong. I have made a profile and have seen that screen before, but I forgot how to do that.

I followed the instructions and manually ended firefox but it hasn't been working. I am sure I put this in firefox.exe -profilemanager like everyone said. Maybe I have to dmanually end another thing? \

Please help.

PEOPLE USE BOOKMARK BACKUP. THEN LOAD IT, YOU GET ALL YOUR BOOKMARKS BACK!

People who don't back up their stuff drive me nuts. It happend to me ounce, and I never let it happen again, Bookmark backup is like god told me you are my most perfect creation.

I have most of my bookmarks saved in explorer. I can't switch profiles. I pretty sure that it did not delete my settings just switched profiles. This has happened before and I corrected it but now I forgot. I followed the instructons but the profile manager won't pop up. Is there anything besides firefox I have to end manually?

You can access the all of the cookies, bookmarks, saved passwords, etc. of your profile by going to
C:\Documents and Settings\Computer account name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and finding your profile. Just copy that whole folder and you have a backup.
Substitute Computer account name with whatever it is for your computer. Mine is Josh, for example.

If you need to change profiles, go to start > run and type in firefox.exe -profilemanager. From there you can either create a new profile or switch profiles.
