to start....watch some games on epsn2 with the MLL, or Major League Lacrosse, and just become familiar with the sport, second is pick up a stick, i would shop around (qclax.com) is a good site n pick up a head (plastic top of the stick) and shaft (metal pole section) after that, just become familiar with ur stick and throw around with it &\or look for some adult beginner camps or camps

Watch games very closely, tape/tivoing them is a great idea. Pick up a stick! Nothing really expensive, i suggest a cyber head and an ignite classic grip handle. Great combo for beginners. Ask the store that you buy it from to string up a mesh pocket in it because the factory stringing is lame and very hard to break in. Definitly go to the park and go work on ground balls. Roll it out in front of you and scoop it up and roll it out again and scoop up again and so on and so on. I'd look into something along lines of a clinic for all ages. Good luck with this.

Try this link: http://www.oregonlax.com/clinics.asp

The first one (second session) looked like it'd be good for you:
Lax by the Lake Lacrosse Camp (boys) June 20-24 – Lake Oswego
A lacrosse camp focusing on the fundamentals of lacrosse and progressing into the more advanced skills of lacrosse. This camp is run by scholar athletes from many different Colleges in Oregon, California and other places around the United states. Two sessions are available: first session 9am – 12 pm (3rd and 4th grades) and second session 1pm - 4pm. Contact: Richard Vanden Brink at Wvandenbrink@student.ndnu.edu for more information, registration, questions.

Great place to buy equipment:
http://www.laxshopper.com/ They give you the prices of about six different websites, but click on the items in the tool bar not the ones directly in the middle in the blue (those are mostly used items that people are selling themselves).
And if you don't want to deal with looking through lax shopper, Queen City lax usually has good prices:
http://www.qclax.com/

Other than that, (after you get your stick) if you know someone else who already knows how to play ask them to throw around with and give you some tips. Also, I'd try to get one of your friends interested as well. That way, it will be more enjoyable for you when/if you go to a camp or practice at home.

Here's a good wall ball drill that will definitely help improve your stickwork:

Good luck and stick with it!

Also if you want to get better on you're own with throwing and catching i suggest heading out to someplace like wal mart and getting a baseball pitchback to throw up against, and it will bounce the ball back to you so you can get better at both throwing and catching......you can pick one up for about $10...

Where can you find a pitchback for $10?

Walmart :) i went in to walmart and looked through all the baseball stuff for my cousin and found a 3 way baseball returner...it works pretty well except it gets dingy looking after a while of rain...

If your not really doing to much organized play you could use old hockey/football pads as a subsitutuion to new pads.

yea.....you dont need to get full equipment yet, first would be the stick, like Vienna said, the cyber is a very good stick for beginners to experienced players, and the shaft you can pick out w\e u want, IMO i think warrior has the best shafts, possibly pick up a platinum alloy or a alloy 2000 (not expensive shafts, but the platinum is a little more and more durable) and second would be gloves and balls. Youre gonna find that practicing with gloves will help out in the long run, and balls, gota have balls to throw round with. Last, if u got some buildings with brick walls, go there and play wall ball (just throw the ball against the wall and practice ur stick skills) welcome to this great game and good luck with it

I used to live out that way. Here are some things that come to mind when I think of Beaverton.

1) It's the home of Tektronix, manufacturer of those really swank oscilloscopes.
2) It's mentioned in "My Own Private Idaho." (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102494/)
3) There is (or there used to be) a snowboard/surf shop downtown.
4) It's right next door to Oregon Episcopal School. (http://www.oes.edu/)

OES is almost always the top-ranked or second-ranked high school lacrosse team in all of Oregon. If you were to grab a stick and throw against a wall at OES, assuming you did not get thrown out yourself by security, you'd probably find plenty of company. If there's a "Play it Again Sports" store in Beaverton, it might be full of secondhand equipment left there by OES students. I would check bulletin boards at local coffee shops, as well as the classified ads in the Oregonian and in Portland's alternative newspapers, for used equipment.

if you are interested in playing LaxNW Actually has a novice men’s league... summer league is almost over but it is defiantly something to look into for next summer, this year they played at Hillsboro Stadium and they will probably have it there again next summer, and yeah Play It Again or Bigfoot are good places to go for gear Bigfoot is right over in Raleigh Hills, in the parking lot with Ski Chalet and the Raleigh Hills Fred Meyer…

But yeah you’re like 8 weeks to late for this summer league but if you are interested in next years Novice league Check out www.laxnw.com (http://www.laxnw.com)

i hate those OES kids. So rich, so ****y, and (i hate to say it) pretty dang good. They start their kids playing in 3rd grade. That's unheard of in Oregon.
