well....since you asked..a lil about my lacrosse career:
played 4 seasons of high school (first 3 as goaltender, and the last one as 2h)......went somethign like 9 goals 15 assists in 10 games (short regular season I know)
graduated this year, went on to play for york university (www.yorku.ca if anyone cares)
played as goalie....had a miserable 0-10-0 season, 148 goals against, 25 for....about .406 sv%.....i think i'm cursed...over 6 seasons of goaltending, my combined record is about 5-54-3...:(...but i did lead my high school team to a 2nd place regional finish as a 2h in my last year)
outside of school lacrosse, I play rep in neighouing city of Brampton....and played for one season with the Ontario u-17 team...may have even played against some of you girls in tourneys like the All star express, or hte Nichols for you upstate NY girls
no..to discuss canadian women's field lax (mostly at the u-20 level)
it's mostly focused in the province of Ontario, altho i believe B.C and Alberta are picking up there too....on our jr national team, I believe we did have one girl from BC or Manitoba (have to remeber to check on that), and the rest were Ontario based
within Ontario, you have the provincial teams (u-20 and u-17), which mostly travels and plays in the states (look for our girls again at the All Star Express and the NJ National Draw!)....girls from that team mostly play rep lacrosse too for various cities..to date there are 11 u-19 teams and 9 u-15 teams....also serveral cities have minor houseleages as well...as far as i know, only 3 cities have a houseleage system...of 4 teams each....
also the high school leagues here.....4 teams int eh region of peel (my home) and 8 in the durham region...that's all folks!
i'll save the details about canadian lax vs what i've seen of american lax for another night.....now, it's time to go pratice the fine art of the ground ball, by doing the fine art of snow shoveling....

ok.....so my comparison with canadian and american lax (i've played in both countries, but only limited experiene with the americans)
1) most noticeale difference is that the american game is much more agressive...not sure if that is relavant to reffing styles, but i noticed that american defenders use stick checking alot more than the canadians (summer, if you watched the u-19's did you notice that?)
2) as goaltender..this one threw me off alot...but american players generally shoot just a step before canadians...because around here, it's usually legal for your stick to travel through the crease on the follow through of a shot...a rule that strictly enforced in the staes....so...you guys shoot just a step before the canadians...resuling in alot moreoutside shooting, and more shooting around the defenseman there, rather than just blowing past her completely and shooting alone
3) lacrosse in the states can be found in high schools and colleges...it's much more main stream...lacrosse may be the national sport of canada, but that's just referring to box lacrosse
4) whilst this isn't stricly a comment on canadian lacorsse....the native teams here...their stick skills are just unreal...our high school team got OWNED by these girls.....my defenseman had a girl coming down on her...the attacker throws the ball up over the defenders head, goes around, and catches it again on the other side, leaving my dman in the dust.....i was just *jaw drop*..esp when different players did taht move through out the course of the game...yeah...we got owned....
sooooooo.....any one else? questions? comments? flames? direct them here
