My cousin is about to start up lacrosse. He is 10 years old and I would like to know what you would reccommend for him gear wise. I know that I have old hockey gear that fits him (helmet, gloves, shoulder pads) but i dont know if you are allowed to use that type of gear. I also know that he has a mini warrior finalizer stick. Would that be what he could use for a stick or does he have to go out and buy a new one? Could he use my old hockey gear? Also, please inform me on some good begginner type gear for him.

I'm assuming he is joining field, so the hockey helmet is illegal for use in lacrosse. The gloves, while usuable, will be horrible for lacrosse, so I recommend purchasing new ones. If you have some money, you can get a decent pair of gloves called Warrior Hypno's, they retail around $55. If not, there are cheaper gloves such as the Warrior Adrenaline, which are around $45. The shoulder pads, as long as they aren't too bulky, should be good. As for the minifinalizer, he can't use it in a game and I don't recommend buying a full scale finalizer as its for the more advanced player.
For a cheap helmet, I'd suggest a CLH2 or an oldschool Cascade Classic, the CLH2 is around $100 but if your confident you can buy a nice helmet called the Cascade CPRO on eBay for less than $100. (Order from worst to nicest: Classic, CLH2, CPRO- all made by Cascade - www.cascadehelmets.com)
For a stick, I would buy a strung, complete stick. I don't know if there is any lacrosse speciality store around you, but a deBeer Icon, Warrior Revo, a Brine Cyber or anything along those lines would be good. The Revo and Cyber are slightly more expensive, but are better.
If you choose to get the head (the part with the mesh where yuo hold the ball) seperate from the shaft (the part that you hold), for a shaft I would suggest an STX AL6000 or a Warrior Alloy 2000. If you have any other questions, please, don't hesitate to ask me, or anyone else on the boards. It's a pleasure to help.
Reasonable Spending Amounts:
Gloves: Shouldn't need anything over $50, but for $55 the Hypnos are a good buy.
Shoulder Pads: The hockey pads should work fine, if not let me know and I can recommend some.
Arm Pads: I forgot to mention these... for the money, I suggest something like the STX Exo AP , seen here (http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_3448_front.phtml)
Or if you want more protection, the Warrior MPG 5.0's (http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_2677_front.phtml)
Helmet: Depending on if you spring for the CPRO, the helmet could run you an upwards of $150. So I suggest you look on eBay, or get the CLH2 or Cascade Classic.
Stick: For a complete stick, at his age, anything over $60 isn't neccessary.
You'll realize very quickly that lacrosse isn't the cheapest sport to take up, but it is very fun. I would check out the For Sale / For Trade (FS/FT) section of the forum.
EDIT: To look at any of the gear I mentioned, stop by www.lax.com and browse for a little bit, you'll get a feel for whats good. Don't take any of the comments on equipment to heart, most of them are uninformed. I wish your cousin the best of luck in his lacrosse endeavors :bye:

Where does your cousin live, and will he be playing box or field?
-hockey shoulder pads would be fine.
-hockey helmets are not legal for US lacrosse associations, but are fine for box in Canada as long as they have the CSA sticker.
-hockey gloves are not well suited for lacrosse....locked thumb and wrist flap make cradling very difficult.
-He'll need a real stick, those minis just won't cut it.
-If new gear is to be purchased, cut corners on shoulder and rib/kidney pads and spend more on the helmet, the gloves, the arm pads in that order.

Hockey Shoulderpads should be fine.
I would follow this guide:

This should provide you all the answers. Just keep in mind that all the gear you need to get must be size small or extra small.
