HISTORY- I bought the full stick over hte summer of 2001 used from a ref. for 25 cnd$...she had used it as her boxla stick for at least one year prior, but had replaced it with another stick that i can't recall)...it was in as good condition as could be expected for a 1+ yo stick
was my first plastic non goalie stick (learned on a woodie of course:D)
WHAT I'VE DONE WITH IT - played one season of attack (2h) 10 games, 9g-15 A, won 1/2 draws..plus a whole whack of pratices and pickup ball and unofficial games
the STICK- pros:
1) it's built like a tank........i squeeze it....and it'd only pinch about 1/4 inch..this thing will never break
2) it's heavy.....sweet checking stick....heavy stick checks
3) ridged sidewall - possibly my favourite feature of this stick...the sidewall kind of has a hook on it..imagine an upsidedown L...what this does is that when cradling...the ball can ride the sidewall...best ball retention of any of the onset sticks i've seen (because these sticks are onset...no pocket..thus a high sidewall = good thing for ball retention) except for the woodie's gut sidewalls...the ridged sidewall holds the ball in...gives you about an extra 2-3 cradles before the ball flies out (for those instances when the ball starts riding up the sidewall due to improper cradling)....test out forself by doign that trick where you end up lying on your back, and cradling acrosse your face
4) wide catching surface - easy to catch with
5) due to it's onset nature...quick stick shots are deadly accurate on this stick...look ma! no whip!
CONS:
1) the stock ball stop - i hated that.....the thing ages into hard styroform...first thing i replaced when i got the stick...the ball would roll on it and bounce on it ... ugh.......(imagine using hard styroform as a ball stop..cuz that's what it was)
2) leathers...or rather the holes that the leathers go into ...the way they are angled, the middle 2 leathers takes a full scrape every ground ball....newer sticks tend to address this by angling the holes a bit (ripped up a total of 2 leathers plaing on hard frosty ground in a one week span)
3) weight - as stated before...heaviest stick on the market....if that bothers you..then this isn't the stick for you
4) wide face - great if you are learning to catch, but if you screw up your shot technique...prepare for total blow out (mostly sky high and way to the side)
5) ball feel......i find it harder to feel the ball in the stick, compared to say the apex...that may have somethign to do with the weight, but you know when the ball is on the sidewall
GENERAL COMMENTARY:
i found that due to the wieght of this stick...putting it on a light shaft (i.e. triax 7000) was totally pointless..it threw the balance of the stick too heavily forward....also, using a thinner women's shaft for this head wasn't ideal for me either, because i found the head kinda drooped to the side when shooting (negliable, but i'm picky).......
once i placed it with a heavy shaft (STX al600) it was a match made in heaven....except that it doesn't fit the AL600 perfectly (the head socket is too wide) so i had it taped in....
also, i'm a goaltender as well...i suppose having a light stick isn't a high pirority to me...i would like it better if it was pinched more..but aside from that, i love this stick
would reccommend to starting players, or defense players that want a solid check.....this stick is an absolute tank...good trick stick too
