a few days ago i was at the hard ware store when i saw i spray that was called liquid ruber all u do is spray it on your stick and its like a harrow it was only like 11 bucks to

lottaLaX

that sounds cool. In fact if I see it I will buy it and try it and tell you guys.

Does it come off easily?

lottaLaX

I assume you could waterproof it?

THEHENRON

just like harrows grip

OHlax3544
08-09-2005, 08:45 PM
eh it probably wouldnt wear off like the harrows grip...i personally like how it wears off bc then its slippery but still grippy..but this would probably rub off a bit and some people might not like it..

another idea...theres stuff called rubber dip...not sure how much it is but my dad uses it for his business...its basically like rubber...when it gets hot it gets stickier but not like itll glue ur hand to the stick...not sure how much it is but if u didnt like to spin ur stick much that stuff would be great

What store did you find it in? I may spray it onto an aluminum...

Sounds sweet, let us know how thin you can apply it, because if it has to be thick it would get heavy.

kamikaze0188
08-09-2005, 11:11 PM
If I were you, I would sand your shaft a bit with maybe 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper then paint it on so it can stick a lot better. Clean the shaft also.

*Note: I would try this with a crappy shaft that you do not care for.

aikitim
08-09-2005, 11:16 PM
good idea kami. thtll probly help the paint stick better and whatnot. or mabey just use like paint thinner to remove the current paint and then mabey a thin layer of primer b4 the rubber idk....

aikitim
08-09-2005, 11:24 PM
it looks like u dip it  lemme see if i can find a spray 1, good spot fred

i cant find anything that sprays on, if someone else can that would be sweet. otherwise ill just buy that stuff from lowes and see how it works

a2lacrosse
08-09-2005, 11:30 PM
this looks really really good. ill try it on a cu31 or something. but it looks like you wont be able to use the dip cause the shaft is so long. hmm that will need some tinkering

aikitim
08-09-2005, 11:33 PM
yea pretty much :agree:

Thanks aikitim, I was actually thinking about what I need to go out and buy to paint my motorcycle and then I saw this thread. :)

Actually guys if you took the time to insulate a tube the dip would work.

FredtheCat
08-09-2005, 11:56 PM
Could you just use a paintbrush?

kamikaze0188
08-10-2005, 12:25 AM
Almost every kind of paint you can think of that comes in a quart or gallon pale also comes in spraypaint form, so I would guess that you could find a grippy substance in a pale if need be.

GOT an Idea on how to dip....

Get a long peice of PVC
Plug one end
fill up to about 1 inch from top
put a coat hanger through teh screw hole of shaft
dip
slowly spin it while using some sort of drying device(spin to ensure even coat)

You guys think it would work?

kryptic

im going to get some spray on tonight. is there a drying process/time required before it should be used?

ill try it on one of my cu31s, though is it going to be a kinda loose layer around the shaft, or stiff and well layered to the shafts shape and size?

vesXattack2
08-10-2005, 07:39 PM
is the stuff clear, cuz if it is and u didnt really care about weight u could paint your shaft a sick color then put the clear grippy stuff over it

TweeK

i think i sorta works like spray paint, spray it on and then wait.

The stuff on the Swizzle can also be bought at most hardware stores.

(It's entirely possible that this is what you have been talking about the whole time, but if not, I figured I'd give people more options)

TweeK
08-10-2005, 07:48 PM
well...is it thin? cause ifs thick like when you take off duck tape off an objet forget it.

Just go to a hardware store. I saw stuff one day called Zone-Tak (can't remember what store) which I assume is the same stuff the Brine puts on the Swizzle, since it too is called Zone-Tak.

i just got the stuff from Lowes and put it on my shaft.

I used the spray, its red. somewhat hard to keep the spray even but a little variation is good. 4 hours to dry.

dry it by hanging from the top straight down.

how bad do you think it will ware off, like when checked and stuff.

a2lacrosse
08-11-2005, 08:51 AM
okay i did it lastnight, its really grippy i like it. though in a few spots where i didnt put enough on it is wearing down. though if you put maybe 2 coats and make sure not to miss spots then it probably wouldnt wear down. last atleast a season.

ill probably switch to it just cause its flashyyyyyyyyy
and the grip it offers is very similar to harrow

lottaLaX
08-11-2005, 09:33 AM
Can you get pics? Also does it wear off on your gloves?

Ram-X-Man
08-11-2005, 09:44 AM
Do you feel a difference in the weight?

THEHENRON
08-11-2005, 09:59 AM
what product did u use

a2lacrosse
08-11-2005, 10:18 AM
No it doesnt wear off onto your gloves, atleast i havent noticed any. no like Red marks on my gloves or anything.

i cant really feel much difference in the weight but i only used 1 coat. i was just experimenting with this coat. im gonna rip it off and put maybe 4 coats on.

i used the Plastic Dip it Spray. that kryptic gave a link for.

but the grip is great. though it wore down, it was 10 at night and it was dark so i didnt put to much on and really uneven. im gonna put some Blue painters tape at the end and then put mulitiple coats so its gonna look really good and last me a long time.

Ram-X-Man
08-11-2005, 10:27 AM
For anyone that didn't go to kryptic's linki it does come in clear.

how many sticks can you spray with one can using 3-4 coats?

a2lacrosse
08-11-2005, 10:42 AM
hmm i really dont know the anwser to that question. still trying to perfect the process. i might have a better anwser tonight when it dries and i test it again.

broslax16
08-11-2005, 10:45 AM
that sounds pretty sweet, i might have to check that out on one of my sticks if i get bored.

Ram-X-Man
08-11-2005, 10:48 AM
I have a few ideas on ways to use this.

1. Put a tape job down with electrical tape, like a criss cross similar to the warrior shaft. Spray it. Pull off the tape. Now you have an inverse of warrior's new shaft, assuming the make the criss cross part with the grip. This presents a ton of options to create your own design.

2. People always complain about their harrows having the paint chipped off. If you give your harrow a clear coat of this stuff it is probably a non issue right?

Well I'm off to the hardware store in an hour... I'll let you know how mine turns out.

bayhawkslax216
08-11-2005, 01:15 PM
I might be reiterating, but would it work to just spraypaint a portion or two of the shaft to get a griptape-like effect?... I mean, does it bond to the metal well enough not to slide around?

Ram-X-Man
08-11-2005, 02:07 PM
to answer that question, yes, it will not slide around. I do have a feeling that you would have to be really patient and let it dry very well to makes sure that the rubbing of your hands against the seam where you stopped apllying the grip doesnt peel away. It would also help to make the seam more gradual then going form full grip to no grip.

Let me just say that I tried this stuff on an old shaft and I cant wait for a drier day to do it on my game stick (:

a2lacrosse
08-11-2005, 02:30 PM
i thought about using painters tape to put a pattern. but edges of it will probably break. after you do it, its going to seem like its painted but its actually rubber and the rubber is gonna wear down if it has to many edges so either like do it at each end with a lot or do what i did and jsut put a lot over the entire thing.

woolax246
08-11-2005, 03:16 PM
If you have a sister or for sum reason have a girls shaft that could proly work so u dont have to worry about it being to big.

RockfordAttack9
08-11-2005, 03:40 PM
Wow, its called athletic/ hockey tape and it costs like $2.00.

Ram-X-Man
08-11-2005, 03:46 PM
Well rockfordattack09, This is an oppourtunity to create grip on your stick without tape, which rips gloves, unravels and needs to be changed pretty often to keep performing well. This is an oppourtunity to put a grip on a stick for way less than buying it that way!!!

i bought some of taht plastidip stuff in spray form at lowes for under 6bucks. ok well i put on 4 coats and let it dry and i gave it a few pokes and slap checks with head and shaft..it isnt very durable but im gunna try again tomorrow but use maybe 7-10 coats instead

1 coat. each good slap check takes a scratch off it. so i guess 1 or two more coats should do the trick. the grip is almost exactly like a harrow. platidip spray, 5 bucks a can.

I thnk we may ahve just found a replacement for tape! it is probably light than tape(for those who complain about a few ounces) and we can now colour our shafts and make sweet designs(or not)! sweeet.....

aikitim

did you guys just spray it right on or did u make any preperations to the shaft b4 hand?

TRELAX
08-12-2005, 10:15 PM
i just sandpapered off the sticker residue from the waring and price stickers. and then i ran the sand paper over the lenght of the shaft a few times to make for an even surface to apply the paint.

trelax how did u get the coat so even. mine was kinda rough and...not smooth. I put 8 coats on

TRELAX
08-13-2005, 11:23 AM
like i said i sanded it a tiny bit so there were no raised areas. then me and my dad put a long skewer through it and hung it from two milk crates. and skinny peice of metal longer than the shaft can serve as a skewer. then we just sprayed it on and rotated it each time i got a portion of the shaft's color completely black. i only laid one coat so i always knew when to stop spraying, when the blue turned black.

laxattack8888
08-13-2005, 11:31 AM
I told my dad about this, and he said that plasi-dip is normally used for coating tools for easier grip so they don't fall out of your hands or something while your in a tight area where you could easily loose something and, well not be able to get it back. I just wish that this was more durable so it would last on a lacrosse shaft like harrow's grip.

a2lacrosse
08-13-2005, 11:55 AM
i used like 5 coats and its isnt cheaping or anything. though now my back up looks like a FIRE TRUCK! its oh so neat. though im intentionally made it rougher instead of smooth. but i doubt it matters.

FredtheCat
08-13-2005, 12:01 PM

LaxAttack2
08-13-2005, 09:54 PM
yeah i got some supplies just a little bit ago and i was wondering if it would work fine spraying over tape then say peeling the tape off or even just leaving it there, also if trelax or anyone else who has any ideas on how to exactly apply it could just post some ideas bc i'm planning on hanging it with somthing then spraying it, would that work?

also does anyone know where i could find different colors besides black? that's all they had at lowes, so would other hardware stores have different colors?

how do you make the stright edges with the spray? if you use tape dosent it get sparyed over then once it dries its all one so you cant just rip it off? like Ram-X-Man said you could make it the reverse of the Warrior criss-cross but the tape would become part of the spary, stuck underneath? right, wouldent you have to cut it out? i guess u could just take a exacto knife to it...?
