I have a friend who I'm starting as a long pole b/c our team is really short on d-poles. Not being a long pole, I have no idea where he should put his hands on it for throws and adjust to for longer throws. I know its mostly preference, but I'm just looking for what most of you do, and what I can have him start at, and he can just adjust from there to what he feels most comfortable with. Try to be specific. Thanks for your help.

For normal passing, i have my bottom hand 1/4 way up from the end, with my top hand a 1/4 way down from the top of the head. (Example: Pole = 8 foot. Bottom hand 2 feet from bottom, top hand 2 feet from top. you get the idea.)
For long passes, i keep the same spread between my hands, but move them towards the bottom of the stick. I usually have my bottom hand RIGHT on the end, with my top hand halfway up the shaft.

There was already a thread on this http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=26473 but ill post info regardless
For short/quick/and on the run passes I tended to have my top hand slightly above the middle, maybe about 6 inches. And the bottom hand about 1 foot below the top hand. For long passes bottom hand was at end of shaft, and top hand was about 16 inches above the bottom hand.

your hands should always be (well i put mine) i think abou a foot & 1/2 apart....for long passes/checks & stuff he should ahve one hand at the bottom, then the other about a foot & a 1/2 up(put tpae on his stick, you dont have to get fancy, just stripes/a ring where his hands should go to help him remember, then for more control/quicker passes just find a middlish area...about 2 feet up from the bottom, & 2 feet down form the top of the head give or take a few inches
