alright so i was practicing with my friend today and we satrted doing long passes but his werent reaching(he has a long pole)...his throws were more line drives than anything so i told him to releasse earlier and give in an arc but he said that would leave it more open to the defensive covering me which i thought was a good point... i than noticed he was throwing with his hands really low so i told him to try and choke up a little.... And it worked but he said it felt akward....

So whats the proper form to through longer with a long stick and should he arch it or no? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

choking up u said seemed to work for him...it might just feel awkward at 1st b/c he's breaking an old habit...i'd tell him to keep practicing choking up more and if it still feels akward then try sumthin else

ya, everythings feel weird at first, tell him to jsut try it a bit & it'll seem more natural, if he wants he doesnt have to choke up all the wya ot like middle of stick, i dont like it cause it leaves like 2 feet hangin out the back & volnerable, what i do is i just slide both hands up a few inches, so i still get a quicker release, i can handle it better & not as much of my stick is vulnerable

sorry about the repeat, but just make sure that his hands are the same distance apart as they were before he moved them, cause throwing will obviously be diff. but that oculd make it worst if this is the first time he's ever really had to change hand locations(eventually he'll get used to it & should be able to slide his hands wherever they need to be in whatever situation)

bottom hand on buttend top hand were ur comfortable
thats whats the pole is for and a line drive is better less time for the attack man riding to shift there ride over to the other side which is the point of the redirect pass

I'd say a Dman is better to throw line drives...provided they get there...
Think about it...
Most of the time the Dman is clearing the ball and needs to pass a decent way away to get to a breaking middie...
If you arch it...hello hospital pass...
If you can hit the line drive to the middie in stride...hello fast break...

As far as hand positioning...typically the line drives are achieved by choking up, and the arcs are when your hands are near the bottom...

I agree, and i (a middie) would rather get a down the line then anything else, including a hospital pass.
