Hi, i am new to lacrosse and i was wondering if anyone had some great info for a begginner. i have dont basicly anything with a lacrosse stick and have neverplayed a game in my life. I have a Warrior Xacto Head and a Warrior Alloy 2000 handle, but in my old school people said it was crappy,? Anyways, :embarressed: i have almsot never ran in a sport in my life besides Baseball in elementary school so i am outa shape endurance wise. I do have a universal gym and a treadmill in my home wich i do use each sometimes. I really need a crash coarse in lacrosse if anyone could either E-Mail me some info or post some that would be great. I know it doesnt look like i have any potential to be able to play lacrosse but id like to try at least.

1. Find a wall nearby throw on that everyday after school. About 40 throws with each side.
2. The Sticky: Cardio Program at lacrosse forums has a great cardio program to work with your running
3. Work-out. Upper body and legs. Alternate days. I'm sure you could find work outs some were
4. Eat healthy. No skipping meals. Atleast 3-4 good ones each day
Good Luck!

Always have your stick in your hands in your free time, it helps you to get used to the feel of the stick. Also, try to get some college/pro game tapes and pay attention to everything, especially small details such as how players catch, throw, and cradle. Play lots of wallball too.

if u like shooting and thnk u'd b more comfortable doing that than attack...middie is good for ppl who like to run and hav good endurance and b comfortable on both attack and defense...defense is if u feel comfortable using a long pole and thnk u can handle the opposing attackers...i'm a goalie and if u like being the last line of defense and being incharge and vocal then that's good for u...it's all about preference (u should prob. try doing each position if ur undecided)

yeah. i have a question for wall ball, can u do it indoors with a foam ball? and if i can do i have to kneel to get it 4 feet above me head so it coams down to catch it?
Trilax03

it's prob. better 2 do it outdoors...i've never done it inside w/ a foam ball...u don't hav to kneel...just throw and catch normally like some1 is passing it to u...u can kneel but standing is prob. easier...if u want u can buy a rebounder...i got a pretty cheap one but it works fine...i used to throw against my garage wall but i broke a window so that ended that

keep practicing and let your coach decide, many players start at middy unless the are have really great reactions (goalie) or are really imobile (defense) altho immobile players arent going to see much PT after youth ball.
keep exercsising, and playing wall ball, is there anyone around who you can throw with? if not you can still throw with someone if they are using a baseball glove, that's what my dad and i did, till i met other people in my town that played lax.
lastly dont get down on your equipment. its basically all the same, and in the hands of a good player, the brand and materials its made of dont matter one bit

yeah that's tru...i used a warrior alloy 2000 for 3 years until the beginning of summer wen my brother told me i needed a lighter shaft for a goalie...but i did just fine w/ it

Ah, bad idea. It won't help you if you're not simulating a real lacrosse game, which means a real ball. Any ball that isn't a lacrosse ball will throw differently, so you'll be getting used to throwing that instead of a lacrosse ball and end up throwing the lax ball straight at the ground when you try to throw with it.
But yeah, work on your stick stills EVERY DAY. Get on the wall as much as you can...and the one thing that improved my stick skills the most was carrying stick around with me everywhere. I got very comfortable with it and now I'm a great ball handler. A great coach once told me "Your stick should be your girlfriend".
Start running endurance and speed so you can be up to athletic par to kick some butt.
Oh, and DON'T FORGET TO WORK ON YOUR LEFT HAND!! You should be able to catch and throw with both left and right hands. Please don't get frustrated and quit, you'll catch on if you work hard, and lacrosse is definitely the best sport out there.
P.S. don't let anyone downtalk your stick, man. It's a fine stick, and don't let anyone talk you into spending tons of money on more expensive heads, especially if you haven't tried them out...a lot of sticks are quite weak. You can visit the equipment forum and look for some suggestions.

my suggestion to build up your stamia and endurance is jog like a mile or two outside. this gets your body used to the air outside and constently changing terrain. then after about a week or two of the mile a day find a field thats like a mile from your house, run there and do sprints like 3-5 grinders, then jog home try to do the sprints everyday, on the day that your not sprinting, run long distance, this should help with endurance for the running
as for stick skills lots of wall ball and make sure you use your off hand so your mobile with both hands.
