the title says it all...i'm an experienced ice hockey player and have been playing all my life..but this year i found out my high school is starting a lacrosse team. so of course i'm interested..looks like a real fun sport..but my problem is that i have never played in one lacrosse game..or even practiced..im 6'3 and 200lbs and being a defenseman sounds good to me..ive read things on footwork and strategies to playing the attack men but i would have problems with catching, cradeling, passing, in general just all stickwork..how long would it take to get used to the stickwork??..and are there any tips to improve them faster?? and is high school lacrosse intense and full of experienced players?? am i in way over my head?? haha

Lacrosse is a great sport. You'll find that we're an obsessed group of fanatics on this board. I recommend you search for stuff. Just enter "beginner tips" or something. We had a thread just the other by a beginner.

My tip is that you will need to work with the pole ASAP (if you didn't know, defensemen use a 6 foot longpole), so get a good short stick (don't worry about the shaft) and practice playing off the wall. If possible find a buddy and play D on them. Good luck.

Dispite all the discussion on this board about which stick to buy, in the end it is not really that important.

Nice way of hijacking a thread. Our high school started a team several years ago and the coach had to recruit players from other sports. Now we're number 1 in the county and number 10 in the state. So go ahead and start. Better late than never.

For speed, you can try sprinting intervals and jump roping.

if youre using a dpole, choke up a lot on the stick, it will make it much easier

My 12 year old son is starting lacrosse for the first time when our season starts in April (if the snow melts). He is a competitive snowboarder (ranked 11th nationwide fo his age group) and has played soccer in the past. I got a list of the equipment he will need for lacrosse, but I am wondering about the what stick to get him - his friends who have played a couple of seasons have turned him onto the Levitation stick, but until his level of comitment to lacrosse is figured out this season, I am not sure what is the best investment to make in terms of his equipment. Any suggestions? Thanks!
